Like Sasha Muradali, I am a huge Mad Men fan.
I love the storyline, the characters, the old days of advertising, the three martini lunches, and the clothes…oh the clothes!
While, I love the series, the first episode of this season really rubbed me the wrong way.
{Spoiler alert: If you’re not yet watching season four, stop reading now!}
If you are, however, caught up and saw the first show of this season, you’ll remember Pete fretting to Peggy about losing the Sugarberry Ham account. [Read more...]
When entertainment skews reality and falsifies the rational perceptions of the real world, Houston, we have a problem.
That is what television’s portrayal of women in public relations is to today’s up-and-coming young women.
I would know I’m one of them. [Read more...]
I love Don Draper.
No, not John Hamm (though he’s quite the looker), I love Don Draper.
He is this complex entity that has a handsome exterior laced with a lethal temper, dry wit, savvy wisdom and this keen ability to make the world work for him.
He’s the original AD man; he’s the quintessential of what makes the Mad Men.
About a week ago [Read more...]
People want to be everyone but themselves.
Heidi Montag did it, so did Victoria Beckham, Demi Moore, Charice Pempengco, Tara Reid, Ashley Tisdale, Madonna and countless others.
It’s this inherent desire to be “perfect.”
Sheyla Hershey could tell anyone who would care to listen all about it. After all, she’s the current world-record holder for the globe’s largest breasts (no pun intended.)
A desire that could eventually kill her.
I’ve been mulling over this for awhile but didn’t want to beat a dead horse into the ground. Except on Saturday July 24, 2010 Kim Kardashian showed up on my Twitter feed, highlighting something that really gets under my skin.
A die-hard fan of hers named Brisa Johnson (who has since deleted her Twitter account) tweeted, [Read more...]

As a promotional tool leading up the premiere of Season Four, AMC released an 18-minute long, “Mad Men Rules” featurette on iTunes.
“I sell products, not advertising.” - Don Draper
It’s for those with an interest on how to drink like a fish, self-destruct and be the runaway cog in the not-so-well-oiled machine, while looking fabulous doing it [Read more...]

AMC’s Emmy-Award Winning and ultra golden oldies hip television show Mad Men is pure vintage goodness.
So, while, there is a fine line between looking contemporary classic and actually looking like you are going to a 1960s themed dance party, a few period-inspired pieces can go a long way.
…You too, can look the part without looking like you stepped back in time, literally. [Read more...]

I actually remember reading this in April 2010, but I came across it again recently while on Esquire online and I thought it would be something nice to post, especially since I make it a rule never to re-post content from another site in its entirety.
I agree and know I know most of females friends (married and single) would agree with all of her points, save perhaps for the the bit about Facebook and ordering Scotch, but Christina Hendrick’s open “Letter to Men” it pretty spot on:- [Read more...]
It’s baaaaaaaack.
And as much as you want to hate him, McDraper Dreaminess is one fine piece of AD man.
Around this time in 2009 AMC revealed the poster for the third season, [Read more...]

Oh no they didn’t! Oh yes, indeed, they did. Advertising Barbie and Ken are here!
Now you too, ladies and gay gents, can take home your very own Don Draper, Roger Sterling, Joan Holloway and Betty Draper from Mattel.
From Oprah, to Jeopardy, to Saturday Night Live to a Simpson’s spoof — it’s all about advertising in the 1960s.
Releasing later in 2010, the dolls are part of Mattel’s Barbie Fashion Model Collection and will retail for approximately $74.95 USD each. Considered premium-price collector’s dolls, they are in the same company as the [Read more...]

The world is a pretty messed up place and continues to prove me right.
This is especially true when I see things like redheaded bombshell Christina Hendricks being called fat, or in this case a “big girl”, by the New York Times with a matching, distorted image to ‘prove’ it. Not only that, but recently, they seem to have no problems letting their entertainment writers perpetrate unhealthy body images to their readers like some gossip rag.
It’s sad.
The tales of the New York Times story goes something like this:- Andy Port, the woman behind “Now Scrutinizing | A rounder Golden Globes,” took it upon herself to call Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and Kate Hudson girls who are [Read more...]
“It’s the thought that counts” … yeah, right. It only counts if there was actual thinking put into said, ‘thought.’
So now that the holidays are over, I think it’s pretty safe to address that holiday topic and talk some down, dirty and real, everyday, normal life public relations. This is one of those things we all think about but no one ever verbalizes.
Has your birthday ever popped by, Christmas, Hanukkah — some sort of gift-receiving time — and you received a present that you were less than thrilled about? [Read more...]
