… Melissa McCarthy can get a Supporting Actress nomination for playing an obnoxious, disgusting, cringe-worthy piece of trash (yes, I said it! and no I’m not taking it back) named Megan Price in Bridesmaids, BUT Alan Rickman (aka international acting royalty) cannot get a nod for his role as Severus Snape, a character who has officially taken its regal place in literary history as a contemporary Byronic and tragic hero like Heathcliff, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. Pre-Fall 2012: Louis Vuitton

“It’s a Small World” from Disney was playing at the Louis Vuitton presentation.

It’s rather fitting when you think about it as very few brands (save Chanel, Dior etc.) have the global reach that Louis Vuitton has.

For the label’s pre-Fall 2012 collection, Julie de Libran, LV’s Design Director, expanded the traditional look and feel of the label with a collection that is a little bit more couture, a little bit more 1960s and a little bit more military-inspired than the usual tones undertaken under the leadership of Marc Jacobs (who has overseen the House since 1997.)

The fabrics are a compilation of [Read more...]

{so·cial me·di·a} is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques.

Not too long ago there was no such thing as Social Media Marketing, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or any others you can think of.

My first year in college was the fall of the year 2000 at St. John’s University where I eventually declared my major to be in Communication Arts.

Ironically at the beginning of my journey, the only communication I was doing was either in person or through my dorm room land line.

The biggest thing happening online was AIM and instead of updating my status, I was leaving away messages.

I didn’t have a cell phone yet, nor did any of my ‘suite-mates’ as we called our roommates who shared our suite-style dorm. [Read more...]

{iStyle} Marc Jacobs v Louis Vuitton: Where Will Life Take You?

By: Kelly Ahern, guest blogger

With its chic simple lines and easily distinguishable monogram it is not hard for one to become entranced in all that is Louis.

Surrounded by the earthy smell of fresh leather, you are invited to step into a world of class and luxe sophistication. No wonder the French conglomerate has yet to lose its seat at the top.

This year marks the 5th Anniversary of BrandZ’s Top 100 Annual Report.

Millward Brown Optimor created the BrandZ Top 100 ranking system as a way to identify the world’s most valuable brands, based on dollar value, of course. The role of a brand is vital, especially in today’s unsteady economy, consumers need a brand that they not only admire but one that they trust.

Well when it comes to luxury, the people choose Louis Vuitton.

This year’s report named Louis Vuitton the number one brand in the luxury sector. Besides its refined appeal and sensible style, what makes Louis stand out? [Read more...]

{iStyle} Designers Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Image via Louise Whitehill

By: Louise Whitehill, guest blogger

Friends are like shoes: so many gorgeous styles, vibrant colours and glorious heel sizes. Amongst the exotic are the old faithfuls: the Best Friend Forever, the Gay Best Friend, the Gobby One, the Charlotte (Sex and the City‘s prim, proper and polite character), the Hardcore Partier…but there is one particularly exclusive brand of friend that only the elite get access to – the designer friend.

Being an A-lister guarantees rubbing shoulders with the best and most talented designers [Read more...]

{iStyle} Hi-Lo Part II

Bleach Black Girls via Bleach Black

By: Jenn Ortiz, guest blogger

There’s that blurred line again. Lucky magazine featured the Bleach Black girls in the May ’09 issue. These ladies frequently post DIY and rock-LA chic fashion on their blogs, and now lo’ and behold, they are guest blogging for Lucky! Could a more perfect segway have been provided for Pt. 1 to Pt. 2 of “Hi-Lo”? I think not. See, here is the other way blogs have changed fashion. Blogs have allowed high fashion to be brought in a very personal way to the public. However, unlike most fashion glossies, there are no clothing allowances in blogging. That means that fashion loving bloggers must rely on their own creativity and style. Most bloggers are not rolling in it, so quite often you’ll see a high end frock paired with shoes from Top Shop.

Fashion {and non-fashion} bloggers tweeted and blogged from fashion week and also from the opening of TopShop in NY. Bloggers like Luphia Loves, Tavi the 13-year old super-child, Kingdom of Style, Fashion Toast, and Style Bubble all post pictures of themselves in their own outfits. These girls are not models and most are not stylists. They are just “regular” people with an interest in fashion and expressing their own style. {Ok, yes, Rumi is now a model, but she wasn’t when she started her blog.} For readers, that is extremely persuasive and encouraging. It makes a reader think, “If she can do it, so can I.” Some retailers and designers have realized the power in this formula, and have begun to send samples to bloggers to try out and hopefully don in their self-styled photoshoots.

DIY Balmain via Bleach Black

As mentioned before, bloggers like Bleach Black, offer DIY lessons on their blogs. Everything from how to revamp old shoes, to making studded jeans and shredding shirts. Can’t afford the Balmain jacket? Look here to DIY and get the look. Ruffled Louboutin’s? Bloggers have you covered. Love that outfit you saw on a celeb or model? Well, how about looking here for similar “styled down to the bracelet” affordable looks.

Or, you could do as Garance Dore suggested in an interview and on her blog: just shop your closet. If you must shop for real, don’t worry. Plenty of bloggers shop e-bay and/or have their own e-bay stores. You can also find e-bay shopping and shop owners in the blogosphere. The same goes for etsy stores. Etsy, is the current darling of the blogosphere. Quite a few bloggers have their own Etsy store, shop on Etsy, and have Etsy days. So on a blog like Tavi’s Style Rookie, you’ll see and hear about Commes, Louis Vuitton, and Rodarte paired with Topshop, Goodwill finds, and Etsy sellers like Norwegian Wood.

So who does a better job at high and low, blogs or mags? The answer is painfully simple at the moment. In a time where the majority is claiming to feel the pinch of the recession, a blog is a style lovers best friend. Glossy guardians of couture, when your finance department is breathing down your neck, you might want to run to a blogger for a lesson.
