Cool Fashion Apps from Gucci, Hunter Boots and Havaianas

Gucci iPhone App

Many brands are betting on iPhone apps to keep their customer base happy.

Recently Gucci launched a very nicely produced app available in eight languages.

It offered travel advice for cities relevant to the brand’s history such as Portofino and Milan, plus glossy, magazine-like features showing how their products are made, interviews with designers, social networking live feeds and robust e-commerce options.

They sell it as an “all-encompassing experience for the luxury brand’s enthusiasts” and it is certainly a well-judged app. [Read more...]

Royal Wedding 2011: Your Highness, There’s App For That

It’s here, the Royal Wedding is here! Well, almost.

Invitations have been delivered, seating arrangements have been set, wedding vows have been edited and the media is in a regal frenzy over the event.

In a few short days, the members of the Royal family dignitaries, celebrities, (ahem, The Beckhams, Sir Elton John, Joss Stone and Guy Ritchie among others) will fill the rows of Westminster Abbey to watch as Wills and Kate become husband and wife. While I won’t be front and center at Westminster Abbey, I will have Westminster Abbey in the palm of my hands.

That’s right, there’s an app for that! [Read more...]

Our Digital Culture: Is It Limitless?

We’re two years shy of our next presidential election and the race has already started.

In a 2:10 video titled “It begins with us” President Obama officially announced his run for re-election. His outreach didn’t stop with the video. His team organized emails and text messages to his supporters.

Video, email, and text messages … not the traditional approach to launch a political, much less a presidential, campaign.

But then again, our world is redefining ‘traditional’. Traditional these days seems to have been transferred from the pen and paper and TV to our iPhones, Androids, Blackberries, and tablets.

Are we all better for it? [Read more...]

{so·cial me·di·a} is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques.

Not too long ago there was no such thing as Social Media Marketing, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or any others you can think of.

My first year in college was the fall of the year 2000 at St. John’s University where I eventually declared my major to be in Communication Arts.

Ironically at the beginning of my journey, the only communication I was doing was either in person or through my dorm room land line.

The biggest thing happening online was AIM and instead of updating my status, I was leaving away messages.

I didn’t have a cell phone yet, nor did any of my ‘suite-mates’ as we called our roommates who shared our suite-style dorm. [Read more...]

Review of the Nokia n900 Mobile Computing Device

Image via Amazon.com

By: Billy Garcia, guest blogger

I received my brand new Nokia n900 on November 25th (pre-ordered on September 13th) and have been using it daily ever since.  I have also previously owned and still use the Nokia n810 internet tablet (no phone function), which I ended up using mostly as a GPS device and to make Skype calls.

I believe that a distinction needs to be made on what type of device the n900 actually is. I would prefer to refer to it as a “Mobile Computing Device” that is also quad band GSM and 3G capable cell phone. It literally is a desktop computer in the palm of your hand. I don’t agree with comparisons made with other types of carrier based phone devices, which I will explain later. A better comparison may be made with the Apple iPhone 3GS. See this article http://bit.ly/M9tgZ

Before actually receiving the n900 I thought it would be rather bulky and cumbersome to carry around because of the slide out keyboard. It’s about the same size as the iPhone but a little thicker. But after having had it and using for a week it’s not as big or bulky as I first imagined, so that’s a plus.

As I said earlier this is a “Mobile Computing Device” and has what I would call three operating contexts or modes of use. They are “Application Mode”, “Dashboard Mode” and “Desktop Mode”.

Each mode or context can be accessed [Read more...]

Back in April, we told you about GUINNESS launching a special edition stout for their 250th birthday. Then July rolled around and we saw how ABSOLUT revved up the competition for alcoholmania with Drinkspiration, “mobile technology with GPS, Twitter and Facebook.”

PR WIN! Get Your ABSOLUT Drinkspiration On

Don’t you love public relations? I love public relations. I love public relations even more when I see really cool new tools and tactics being created by brands to get what they want and increase revenue in a recession.

One of the newest comes from ABSOLUT VODKA who launched the Drinkspiration by ABSOLUT application.

Basically, this nifty tool combines “mobile technology with GPS, Twitter and Facebook.” Dude, that sounds macro-byte delish!

So what is it? It’s an interactive encyclopedia of recipes that aims to help people share their favourite drinks, create new ones and recommend others based on spirits, taste, weather, time of day, vibe of the bar, sound volume, real-time drink trends and who knows what else.

And guess what folks? It’s FREE for iPhone and iPodTouch users.

Oh no? Oh yes, yes, yes!

Believe it or not [Read more...]

Your Smart Phone of Choice: #Blackberry , #iPhone , #Nokia ?

Smart phones are mobile phones that offer advanced capabilities — very similar to what you would find on your PC or laptop.
There is no specific industry standard for what is considered a smart phone, but there are some knacks that each carry:

  • operating systems
  • e-mail
  • Internet
  • e-book reading options
  • applications
  • built-in full keyboards
  • GPS
  • external USB and/or VGA connector
  • ample GB of space
  • typically 5.5+ pixel cameras
  • etc.

Basically, these phones are miniature computers you can hold in the palm of your hand.
With Nokia releasing their N97 in June 2009, and the fact, that everyone, besides me (yes, I’m so serious), owns a Smart Phone, I want to know which one you prefer and WHY?

Please vote below.

In the “comments” section explain your choice of why you prefer a specific phone or why you do not.

If you voted “Other,” tell me why and which phone you prefer that is not listed above.

Sasha H. Muradali runs the Little Pink Book and SashaHalima PR. She has never owned a Smart Phone and is interested in finally make that purchase later this year. Your opinions in the matter would be greatly appreciated :)
