We’ve all heard the “green” buzzwords popular among marketers and business leaders: “eco-friendly,” “social-entrepreneurship,” “carbon footprint.”

While, the automotive and technology industries are well known for their leadership in sustainable business, lesser-known but equally important “green” trends can be found in the beauty industry.

In fact, many beauty companies have established unique [Read more...]

{iStyle} Get The Look: PIRET and TAMARA #makeup

PIRET & TAMARA

By: Kelly Ahern, guest blogger

Let’s be serious, very few fashionistas are lucky enough to have their own personal makeup artists at their beck and call.

Some of us are crafty and creative, mixing vibrant shadows and contouring blush, but then there are the select few of us much less make-up savvy, who can barely apply eyeliner.

We all have one common goal though—to look fabulously fierce. [Read more...]

Makeup Mutiny: Smart Cosmetics Purchasing

©2008-2010 ~XpaulietheparrotX

In November 2009 I posted a very popular, almost controversial article called Be an Informed Cosmetics Buyer, Don’t Be Duped! It received a lot of feedback and I was introduced to a movement called Makeup Mutiny which after some research, I fully support and believe in their mission.

Started by Kristen Leigh Bell, who is also the founder and owner of Aromaleigh Mineral Cosmetics, Makeup Mutiny is a movement against repackaged cosmetics. It is based on embracing creativity and the folks who put hardwork, science and lots of thought into unique, one-of-a-kind indie, mineral makeup.

Kristen, a primary source, sat down with me and was kind enough to not only delve into some amazing industry secrets, but give Pink Book readers the real deal behind what’s out there. With over 10 years of indie mineral makeup experience, Kristen is an expert who has been around since the start of mineral makeup as [Read more...]

This post is a very long time in coming and I saved it for today because I think it would make a good Christmas present for any young girl getting into makeup. It’s Black Friday weekend and I know a lot of you are going shopping so I wanted to throw this into your basket for consideration.

The Pixi Wakeup Kit come with 18 eye shadows, 2 concealers/eye primers, 8 lip glosses and 2 baked cheek powder duos all for $34.00 USD. It’s a $130 value if you had to purchase everything on it’s own. That’s a steal. [Read more...]

Be An Informed Cosmetics Makeup Buyer, Don’t Be Duped!

Hey Dolls & Guys,

This is an open letter from me to you, on how NOT to be duped this season when making some online cosmetics and makeup purchases.

Long story short, a YouTube video popped into my Google Reader about a company (which shall remain unnamed, unless you email me specifically for the link). This video was their rebuttal to people defaming their products. Simple enough, right? Happens ALL the time. So really and truly this isn’t a big deal because that’s what happens on the Internet.

Haters are a way of life…except when you type “[Company X] repackaged” into Google and pages upon pages of product reviews start showing up.

That’s the purpose of this post, to tell you about suppliers, how to spot a fakes etc.

So what did I find out?

First of all, there are a few [Read more...]

{iStyle} Social Media Bloggettes & the Haute Fashion idiots who IGNORE them

This is part one of Haute Social Media: Fashion, Makeup & Anna Wintour 2.0

So maybe it’s just me, but I really get ticked when I come across a “Social Media Guru/PR Expert” handling a makeup brand or fashion line who is an idiot with absolutely no grasp of social media, professional decorum and who treats their brand’s outlet as if it was their own personal Facebook page.

The sad thing is, there seems to be a lot of them out there these days…on Twitter especially. It not only irks me, but it saddens me because these people are ruining the name of some really great, top of the line brands.

And while, not naming any names – if you think hard enough, especially, in terms of Twitter, I’m sure you can think of exactly who (and there are more than one) I’m talking about; these “gurus & publicists” make you cringe.

They don’t the first thing about professionalism, they don’t know the first thing about social media, but there they are, in front your face, representing your favourite brands.

It’s ridiculous.

I’d seriously like to know when it was acceptable to conveniently [Read more...]

{Beautirati Looks} Ooh Baby Amber my White Lights!

Beautirati logo by Sasha H. Muradali. 2009 All Rights Reserved.

Haha, I like my title. Anyway, I digress before I even start – in my morning rush to get out of the house today, I accidentally picked up white eye shadow instead of the neutral beige I wanted.

You know those mornings where you don’t even realize what you’re doing because you have so many thoughts rummaging through your little brain? Yea, that was me today.

By the time it dawned on me, I was in the car, the sunlight hitting my face, my sunglasses at home and quite noticeably I realized what I did…white eye shadow highlighting my eyes. The thing is…I really liked it!

So from me to you, [Read more...]

Pink may be ‘the color’ of Spring 2009, but I’m convinced the fashion world is still reeling off of last winter’s lapis binge and are hanging onto lavender as a happy haven.

It’s shown up on Fergie for MAC’s latest set of Viva Glam advertisements. Then, back-to-back, lavender lipsticks appeared in two separate campaigns: Cream Team (Lavender Whip) and Hello Kitty (Fashion Mews and Fast Friends).

Selling out quicker than most any other color from [Read more...]
