David Attenborough and Living Coelho’s Personal Legend

David Attenborough - New Life Stories
This week I was lucky enough to meet (Sir) David Attenborough at a signing for his latest book, New Life Stories.

The book is a collection of stories collected over the past 50 years making iconic Natural History Programmes.

Even those who are unfamiliar with David Attenborough’s name will probably have seen his programs at some point. [Read more...]

{Rules of PR no.38 } EGO: Be Careful What You Wish For #doctorwho #branding

The Doctor has returned to the TARDIS with some alien looking Aliens, a ginger and an appetite for custard.

In December 2009, I wrote Time Lord Victorious to 11th Doctor Who: Is Tennant Smart or Foolish? with curiosity looming high above me in Gallifrey proportions.

It’s been nearly four months and David Tennant [Read more...]

via the BBC. Regeneration from 10th to 11th.

I’m.am.obsessed.
(Possibly on Harry Potter levels, but we’ll leave that up for debate)

I think we’ve realized this somewhere along the space and time continuum a few years back, that I really love this thing called Doctor Who and guess what Pink guys and dolls? Season 11 is coming! *yay!*

Okay, unless you’re a sci-fi fan, have some sort of anger towards David Tennant because you think he’s an idiot for leaving, pay attention to all things Barty Crouch Jr., and/or watch BBC America, I do not, by any stretch of the imagination, believe that this post is for you. :)

Why SPINdustry Is Not PR & Wrongly Portrays the Industry #fail

****** UPDATE: Monday February 22, 2010

I had an interesting conversation with Mr. Cheban & Mr. Huck in this order…

Read for yourselves. It was unsolicited, as I never contacted them directly, until I replied to a person who tweeted me including Mr. Cheban and Mr. Huck into my tweet.

Also, I’d like to mention some things since this is apparently now a topic of conversation: I know the show is for entertainment, but I don’t appreciate how it makes my industry, my degree and the field I work in look to people on the ‘outside.’ Nor do I appreciate how it makes women in public relations appear to be nothing more than far lesser versions of poor Samantha Jones-types from ‘Sex & the City’ with the brains of a Karen Smith from ‘Mean Girls.’

xx.

You need ‘experience’ to pass out bottles of water, short black mini-skirts topped off with neon pink jackets, the keen ability to know not to put mustard in your boss’ sandwich and 4-inch stilettos to work in public relations…that is according to the ghastly new E! reality television show SPINdustry produced by Kim Kardashian. {ADbitious} BBC Releases NEW Doctor Who Logo, Plus Clip of Regeneration

via the BBC, episode "Journey's End"

Well, my little Whovians, you won’t be seeing double anytime soon because if you missed it the first time around (like I did), the BBC has come out with a new logo to usher in the era of Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor.

Everyone knows the orange & black Doctor Who logo. It looks like this science fiction, all seeing eye, reminiscent of Sauron from Lord of the Rings. It’s also synonymous with the 10th Doctor.

Well, with the exit of David Tennant (have I told you how foolish I think David is? grr), Steve Moffat and the folks in the art department of the BBC have decided to really stay true to “out with the old and in with the new.”

Regeneration video from the BBC.

Behold! View the logos through time, my dear little sonic screwdrivers [Read more...]

Doctor Who & Torchwood: the Mini-Musical… sort of

via Oh No They Didn't!

via Oh No They Didn't!

Okay, this is just silly, endearing and rather cute. It will probably have no value to anyone unless they are a Doctor Who, David Tennant, John Barrowman, Torchwood or Proclaimers fan… or unless they just find this sort of stuff amusing.

If you are a Doctor Who fan, like I am, and you were a little sad and rather put into a foul mood because you think David Tennant is foolish for leaving the TARDIS, then umm this is for you :) [Read more...]

Goodbye Tennant, Hello Smith: Preview 11th Doctor Who

via the BBC. Regeneration from 10th to 11th.

Well folks, we’ve reached the end… the “End of Time” that is and the Doctor has officially left the TARDIS.

While, our friends across the pond witnessed David Tennant officially exit, the longest-running science-fiction television show in history, on New Years Day. The rest of us, in the US of A, don’t get to see Matt Smith regenerate to the 11th Doctor until tonight, January 2 at 8:00 p.m. on BBC America.

The BBC released stats stating that 10.4 million people watched Tennant’s exit as the Time Lord Victorious on New Year’s Day. According to their overnight stats, at the climax of the show 10.8 million were sitting down to view Matt Smith take the reigns of the Tardis.

whoa.

In sonic light of all of this, the BBC has finally released the preview for the new series of Doctor Who [Read more...]

Time Lord Victorious to 11th Doctor Who: Is Tennant Smart or Foolish?

**Updated – January 3, 2010 5:06 p.m. ET at end.**

“I’m really proud of what we’ve done. It’s difficult to step away from that. But at the same time, well, better to whilst I’m still loving it, better to leave them wanting more.”  – David Tennant (source)

The Doctor has left the TARDIS.

While, David Tennant’s definitive role as the Time Lord victorious on the BBC’s Doctor Who as the 10th regeneration was “impossibly fortunate,” is his departure from the show at the height of his (and its) popularity incredibly smart or worthy of getting him thrown out of the TARDIS forever? UPDATE February 17, 2010
The new reality show is called SPINdustry (which I find insulting to true PR pros), it’ll be on E! television network and will premiere after the upcoming season finale of Keeping Up With the Kardashians

If all you need is a sex tape filled with some golden showers, a mock radio-drug saddler and a good makeup artist to make yourself famous, proving to the world you are “somebody,” then I guess the Kardashian household is full of “superstars.”

When I Blog, You Blog, Just Like That!

I was thinking about something the other day – how often do you read something on the web and write about it in your own words?

Well, if you are a blogger, this is what you do. Sure some of the creative juices come from within, but quite a few posts start elsewhere.

So when I recently found out, via Hacker News, that the AP was going to start charging for their content [Read more...]

I refuse to settle for anything less than Mr. Darcy

A Mr. Darcy personifed

I refuse to settle for anything less than Mr. Darcy
(aka – you men need to step up your game. I’m not asking for the world, only that you act like you belong in the one of which I inhabit.)

In response to a recent article on Review Romance, a not-so-subtle ‘boy’ claims that women, the world over, for the past 200 years, are ‘nuts’ because we love Fitzwilliam Darcy, the hero from Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a woman in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of husband!”

A mini-essay of sorts, because I feel you are in dire need of an education, sir.
