You’re Invited: Sasha’s 28th Birthday and Recurso World Aids Day Fundraiser

Donate Today!

Hello, hello!

It’s that time of year again and this year Recurso will be doing another great fundraiser!

Sasha, Recurso’s resident PR & Emerging Media master, is donating her birthday to Recurso!

December 1st is World AIDS Day, so it makes it the perfect opp for a Recurso+World AIDS Day! Currently, we’re raising funds to help buy antiviral treatments for the Hospital del Niño in Lima, Peru, and all proceeds will go towards this goal.

Recurso, a Spanish word for “resource or refuge”, is a 501(c)(3) international non-profit organization that began in May 1999. Recurso is dedicated to improving the human condition by empowering students across the nation to provide direct sustainable development and aid. Recurso’s three areas of concentration are: health, water, and education. This includes promoting primary education, quality health care, dental hygiene education, the building of schools and providing school supplies to our global community partners.

We really hope you can make it!
♥ Eva, Sasha and the Recurso Team

Healing Brazil’s Children: Digitally Carinho de Verdade #carinhodeverdade

The Carinho de Verdade (True Affection) campaign is a mobilization strategy that is using social media to promote awareness against the sexual exploitation of children. Launched in October last year in Rio de Janeiro, it is driven by various government agencies, charities, and the country’s largest Media Conglomerate – Rede Globo.

The campaign aims to put together a plan of action that promote debate and disseminate information through social networking sites such as Orkut, Facebook and Twitter.

Its organizers describe it as a “project of social education to build a new culture of awareness about the seriousness of this problem.” [Read more…]

Inhale Courage, Exhale Fear: Moving Forward

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.

You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever — because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.”

– Steve Jobs

If I learned anything over the past year in a half it’s that not all that glitters is golden.

It’s that the world is big place and we have lessons that need to be learned.

Some people come into our lives, not to stay forever, but to teach us these lessons.

Maybe we’ll see them again, maybe we won’t.

“A fall from the third floor hurts as much as a fall from the hundredth. If I have to fall, may it be from a high place.”

– Paulo Coelho (By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept)

But each experience is built to shape us.

I see people, often, striving to work at the bigger firms, striving to be the bigger person, and dreaming so big they lose sight of the bigger picture.

What is the bigger picture you ask? [Read more…]

Inhale Courage, Exhale Fear: Perspective

“Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permission of another.”

Madonna did it better than anyone else I’ve ever seen, heard of or known.

From Whose That Girl to Blonde Ambition right along to her Confessions, ‘Her Madgesty’ is the queen of self-reinvention.

I try to live by this saying I made up for myself not too long ago, that when life throws you limes and some salt, turn it into a sparkling margarita.

Or, rather I’m a firm believer in muddling those limes and making a caipirinha.

Understandable, that that phrase is easier said than done, but it’s the key to self-reinvention.

Call it, “perspective,” so to speak.

A hard pill to swallow, but good for you, once it’s slinking down your throat, as perspective can heal the mental wrinkles of the brain, soothing away the crazy, but not necessarily numbing the pain.

It’s better than that, it will help you leap over the hurdles in your life. [Read more…]

“Empty your mind of negativity and the universe will fill it with love, wisdom, and bliss.”

~ Ashley Bryce

I just don’t believe that things can just end.

Just like that.

I just don’t and can’t believe that things happen to people the point where they streamline into one inherent direction that is one way or another with no mixed mediums.

The world doesn’t work like that.

Call it serendipity, [Read more…]

Inhale Courage, Exhale Fear: In Vino Veritas

Image via WeHeartIt

“In vino veritas.” – Pliny the Elder

There is this saying in Latin, “In vino veritas,” that roughly translated, it means “in wine there is the truth.”

In essence it means, that after drinking, a persons’ tongue is loosened enough to say what they really think, what they really feel and incidentally, the truth.

Paulo Coelho has this saying where he proclaims that,

“truth resides where there is faith.”

It’s this concept of [Read more…]
