Imagine a social network that is like one giant sorority: This is what Alexandra Chong has been building over the past 6 months since launching Luluvise. The OTHER Social Network: Badoo … in Brazil

By: Alice Bonasio, guest blogger

With over 112 million members, and a few more joining every second, Badoo is one of the fastest-growing – and profitable – ventures on the web.

In Brazil, though, it is a mass phenomenon, with over 14 million users registering for the service in under two years.

But there is still room for expansion, since Brazil has the largest number of internet users in Latin America – 76 million and growing.

Brazilians are avid Social Networkers.

A recent Synthesio report found that among internet users in Brazil, 86% were on Social Networks, compared to 74% in the UK and US.

So what’s Badoo all about and why does it work so well in a tropical climate?

It all boils down to its easy, flirty, “lets hook up” attitude, which really resonates with Brazilians, it seems. [Read more...]

It’s here, the Royal Wedding is here! Well, almost.

Invitations have been delivered, seating arrangements have been set, wedding vows have been edited and the media is in a regal frenzy over the event.

In a few short days, the members of the Royal family dignitaries, celebrities, (ahem, The Beckhams, Sir Elton John, Joss Stone and Guy Ritchie among others) will fill the rows of Westminster Abbey to watch as Wills and Kate become husband and wife. While I won’t be front and center at Westminster Abbey, I will have Westminster Abbey in the palm of my hands.

That’s right, there’s an app for that! [Read more...]

{so·cial me·di·a} is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques.

Not too long ago there was no such thing as Social Media Marketing, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or any others you can think of.

My first year in college was the fall of the year 2000 at St. John’s University where I eventually declared my major to be in Communication Arts.

Ironically at the beginning of my journey, the only communication I was doing was either in person or through my dorm room land line.

The biggest thing happening online was AIM and instead of updating my status, I was leaving away messages.

I didn’t have a cell phone yet, nor did any of my ‘suite-mates’ as we called our roommates who shared our suite-style dorm. [Read more...]

APPLE: The Agony, the Ecstasy, Steve Jobs and the Great “i”

By: Alice Bonasio, guest blogger

As the hundreds-strong queue developed outside of my local Apple shop in Bath, England, smug blue-shirted assistants looked on as the giant iconic logo of the world’s most popular brand glowed above them all.

I found myself staring into its soft white light, as it appeared to beckon me to a world of technological passion bordering on fanaticism.

“I see you” as the voice of Sauron [Read more...]

FIND OFF: 2010, the Internet and 20 Things

Can you find the hiding Rabbits?

By: Amanda Montgomery, guest blogger

I’ve heard it said from a number of my friends who’ve clocked far more time in the industry than I have that at certain moments, that truly great advertising can be conceived when a couple of mates get together one night over dinner and drinks (mainly drinks) to discuss art and new ideas.

The next morning everyone walks into the office rubbing their eyes while sipping on stale coffee, they click on their email to see an unusually enthusiastic, “Yes, this is brilliant … Go with it full steam!” note from the client and with a nervous but reserved smile a certain celebratory energy sets in to ignite the day. When studying the history of music and looking back at a timeline of significant moments atonal aficionados often recall tender moments like when Sinatra slide across a smoky Vegas stage, Woodstock ’69, Michael Jackson’s Solo Glove, the debut of Hip Hop, Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress and so on.

Era of the Social Consumer: The Rise of the Private Sale Sites

By: Kelly Ahern, guest blogger

Brian Solis said it best,

“What may sound like buzz words or mere hype, is actually the beginning of the end of business as usual. Welcome to the rise of the social consumer and a new era of social commerce”.

In today’s society there isn’t a thing you cannot find online. Shopping has never been easier—and for a fashionista with a spending problem, like myself, online social commerce has become my drug [Read more...]

Favorite Fashion Collage | Me

By Amanda Montgomery, Guest Blogger

As the holiday season gets into full swing, how many nights a week do you fly out of the office on the way to yet another jolly event, toting your favorite, festive hand bag and rocking those fabulous heels you nabbed for a killer price last March?

You’re make-up is perfect, and your jeans are amazing but all of these things put together only produce an outfit.  What if putting on the perfect party dress wasn’t that easy?

14-years ago, even before a paralyzing car crash dramatically altered Angela Irick’s world and placed her in a wheelchair, Irick wasn’t really focused on fashion trends all that much.  [Read more...]

Lace Fence' Project by Dutch Design House Demakersvan; Courtesy of I. CordalÂ

When we were growing up and often fighting with our siblings then tattling on them immediately to start trouble your wise parents probably said,

“There are 2 sides to every story. Let me see what your brothers/sisters have to say.”

In a recent article for Forbes, journalist Lauren Indvik approached the story surrounding luxury brands (Jimmy Choo, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, etc) and what occurs when these labels attempt to incorporate social media into their marketing campaigns.

As it turns out, there are several sides to the story about whether social media will generate an increase in sales, and more importantly raise top-of-mind awareness for luxury brands. [Read more...]
