{iStyle} How to Dress Like You Have a Trust Fund

By Bridie Clark, guest blogger
Author of The Overnight Socialite

You know the type:  It’s raining, or 3 am, or the middle of yoga class and this woman looks crisp, pulled together, ready for her close-up. Her hair is freshly blown-out, her jewelry is tasteful Cartier.  Linen wouldn’t dream of wrinkling when she wears it. Seeing her, you envision a walk-in closet full of neatly folded Italian cashmere. She must be rich, you think. Her look would be impossible to achieve — or maintain — without a trust fund and a lot of free time. [Read more...]

A few weeks ago, an e-mail popped up in my inbox with a proposal to review this book for submission. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence, but it has been a while since we at the LPB have accepted a submission for review. As you readers probably already know, there have been all sorts of changes going on for Sasha. I’ve been unusually quiet here for similar reasons. Writing my own book, finishing a book that I was hired to write, consulting, and being a mom has left me with little time to read – or at least to read as much as usual. I’ve been re-reading favorites so that I wouldn’t be annoyed with the interruptions. I’m the type that likes to sit down and devour a book, so having to stop in the midst of my savoring the text annoys the living daylights out of me.

But, here was this opportunity to read something that seemed lighthearted. I could see that this wasn’t going to be a Not That Kind of Girl or Locust and the Bird.

{iStyle: we just had to share}

So Ms. Sasha is off to the fashion capital of NY {not for NYFW, but for a fabulous job…} and Ms. Jenn has been losing her mind. We know we’ve been absent from iStyle for the past few weeks, but we just had to share this really quickly. For all you fashionistas, we’ve found the perfect stationary.

Behold, Christian Lacroix postcards. Also available, a Lacroix notebook and journal.

You’re welcome.

{iStyle} Project Runway 7 – In the Sack

We think there might be a project runway curse, because many times there have been cable issues when watching the show. Once again, our cable box went out, so I was not able to DVR it. We were able to catch it live, albeit tuning in a bit late. By the time we tuend in, the models were out in the middle of a field with Tim Gunn at some farm… in potato sacks. We like this challenge already. [Read more...]

{iStyle} Project Runway 7 – Back in NY

And so begins another season of Project Runway. We’re back in New York this season. (Hooray!!!) But, possibly back in LA next season. (WTF, Lifetime?! W-T-F!) Heidi is pregnant, again. We’ve lost count of how many kids she’s had at this point. Tim is as adorable as ever. Most importantly, Michael and Nina are back! What’s more, Michael and Nina will be weighing in on that snore of a show Models of the Runway. They’ve actually given life to that show… that and this season they casted some real feisty (read: bitchy) models.

In case you need a reminder of why Michael, Nina, and Heidi being together are so essential on this show, take a look at this exchange when referencing the cliche of one contestants horrible creation:

Michael (in lispy uber-queen voice): “Wow, isn’t that glamorous?”
Nina: “To who?”
Heidi: “In what country? In what year?”
Michael: “Well I was just gonna say, in a lounge in Las Vegas in 1972.”

Don’t tell me you didn’t miss the trio.

Ok, enough about Michael, Nina, & Heidi. For the first challenge, the designers were asked to create a look that embodies who they are as a designer. A great way to start, in our opinion. [Read more...]

{iStyle: Team Tavi}

By: Jenn Ortiz

Here we go again…

The hot topic in the fashion world this week, as it has been several times in the past, is the validity of teen fashion bloggers. Many members, and spectators, of the fashion industry have been quite vocal about bloggers like Tavi, Jane, and BryanBoy. It all began with a video of Tavi Gevinson reporting on Rodarte for Target along with the announcement that she would write a column in the January issue of Harpers Bazaar. Elle editor Anne Slowey and fashion writer Lesley Blume had a thing or two to say about the situation. Blume repeatedly called Gevinson a novelty, and Slowey implied that the young fashionista couldn’t be capable of writing her own material, that she must have a “Team Tavi” of support, since Gevinson didn’t maintain the same voice in [Read more...]

2009 07 projectrunway {iStyle} Project Runway & Models of The Runway: Model Challenge

By: Jenn Ortiz

Seriously Comcast, WTF! I went to my DVR to watch last week’s elimination and it cut off right before the runway. Rawr. Luckily, I had guessed right. Christopher was finally eliminated. As for this episode, much like the entire season, I’m pretty sure I snored at some point. I just want you all to take a moment and think back to season’s past and the fabulousness that came down the runway. Can you see these 3 pulling that off? No, me neither. Le Sigh. [Read more...]

{iStyle} Project Runway: Michael Kors Challenge

2009 07 projectrunway {iStyle} Project Runway & Models of The Runway: Model Challenge

By: Jenn Ortiz

For this challenge each designer picks a location that has inspired Mr. Kors and designs based on that. Holy crap, could it be? Michael AND Nina? Finally! Guest judge Milla Jovovich? Yes, yes, yes!!! She’s an amazing judge. Lifetime, please just keep that combination. I should scratch this recap post and just do a top 10 quotes. Milla’s priceless “If this was ‘Project I didn’t mind it’” quip would be on there.

{iStyle} Project Runway: Sequins, Feathers, No Drag

2009 07 projectrunway {iStyle} Project Runway & Models of The Runway: Model Challenge

By: Jenn Ortiz

Before you watch this weeks PR, let’s recap on last week:

So, we lost Epperson. Sad. Last week the guest was Bob Mackie. {Seriously, I think I yelled out “Holy Tina Turner it’s Bob!”} Nina was finally back. Bob Mackie told Logan that he should have put sequins on the crotch and be more daring. I’d like to know if there is a rule that Michael and Nina couldn’t be on the show together. Lifetime, who are you kidding? Most talked about season? Sure because of the lawsuit that preceded it! Most watched season? Definitely not.  [Read more...]

By: Jenn Ortiz

Holy crap, could it be? Michael Kors has returned?! Oh, Lifetime, don’t tease us. This better be for real. In this challenge eliminations are individual and more than one person could be eliminated in this challenge. This made for some really awkward elimination music. I mean really, let the girl off the stage and then cue up the pounding anxiety sound. [Read more...]

2009 07 projectrunway {iStyle} Project Runway & Models of The Runway: Model Challenge

By: Jenn Ortiz

F-me! I missed crying models last week. But, I did see Johnny’s lying ass get canned… and Tim Gunn exasperated over Johnny’s spewing. Moving on. Damn the fangs are coming out here. Oh, and can someone please tell me where the freakin’ hell is Michael Kors?! [Read more...]

{iStyle} Size 12+ models and controversy at LFW

Morley leads the final walk. Photo via Getty Images

The use of 3 plus size models, caused an uproar at Mark Fast’s LFW SS10 presentation. The casting led to both Fast’s casting director and stylist , Erika Kurihara – also an editor of i-D magazine, walking out on him. {Rumor has it that Fast may have fired one or both.} [Read more...]

{iStyle} NYFW Day 7 & 8

NYFW is gone and over, but I still owed you a recap. (You’ll also be getting a spring trend prediction and LFW summary in the coming days.) Comcast and oncoming flu be damned, we got this post up. I present to you, days 7 & 8.

3.1 Phillip Lim – Almost every outfit had some sequins at Lim. It was all about enticing a girl to spend by blinding her with bright colors and shiny pretty things. Pleats, leather, and curves of fabric wrapped about dresses, luxe pants, a sequin romper, fully sequined blazer, were put out by Lim alongside a well-made and basic gray shirt and short or khaki trench. {iStyle} tidbit: yigal & alexander

Earlier this week we mentioned how one of Yigal’s looks was a bit too similar to an Alexander Wang look from a previous season. Here they are. You be the judge. What do you think?

{iStyle} NYFW – Day 6

Even Snuggie had a fashion show today. Ew. Aside from that, today was an overall good day for design. Reading below, you’ll see more of the trends that have been developing the past few days, but you’ll also see the possibility of a few more new trends.

Badgley Mischka – What I really liked here  were the necklaces! That starfish necklace is absolutely stunning. Colorwise, Badgley Mischka kept on trend; likewise, with offering up soft and silky fabrics, sheers, and clothes wish a slightly casual but luxurious feel. [Read more...]
