Yes, yes, I know. It’s not a surprise I’m a huge Avatar fan, nor is it a shocker I was a wee bit cranky after the Oscars 2010, and it probably shouldn’t be a major “oh no she didn’t” that I’m totally psyched because… AVATAR’s coming to a television screen near you!
*squeee* with me now, *squeee-eee*
Mark your calendars guys and dolls, April 22, 2010 is the date the LA Times is reporting. In case, you also missed it — that’s Earth Day! So what better way to embrace our planet (besides Disney’s Oceans) than to embrace it with some bio-luminescent goodness of the Na’vi.
However, that being said, don’t expect a DVD and Blu-Ray set of discs loaded with extra features and bonus materials. Rather, expect a sleek, minimal and exceptionally well put together disc. Basically, James Cameron and co., are using every little bit of disc space available on both DVD and Blu-Ray discs to give audiences the best digital experience they could possibly get.
And as for 3D? Cameron isn’t playing trendy with all the other directors and producers out there by releasing his film in 3D to the masses, nor does he plan to at all in 2010. Actually, Cameron is holding on to his masterpiece until later on when home technology can catch up to his film of epic proportions and show it in homes the way its meant to be seen.
Also, because of Avatar’s Earth Day release Fox is supposed to announce a major environmental campaign to accompany the film’s release.
But before, you put in your pre-orders to Amazon –I’m so tempted too – while not 3D, a multi-disc “ultimate” version of Avatar is slated to be released in November 2010.
The film will retail for $29.98 USD on DVD and $39.99 USD on Blu-Ray.
The image provided by the LA Times is of a combo pack — but no prices have been mentioned as yet.
Fox is hoping for a home explosion, must as it had with Avatar’s cinema take over. While, having have grossed over $2.6 billion USD worldwide since it’s release on December 18, 2009, the question is, will it surpass The Dark Knight’s 3 million copies of home sales on the first day.
