In case you missed it, Disney released an image for their new film Rapunzel set to arrive in November 2010 and a video leaked from the film. Actually, the film is set to be called Tangled. But that might change, considering before it was called Rapunzel: Unbraided.

Of course I have some random food for thought:-

• After nearly a decade without a princess movie, Disney released The Princess and the Frog. A film that was not only racially diverse, but showed the Princess as an independent woman. Will they do the same with Rapunzel? I ask because, traditionally, the story is anything but about an independent woman.
• Not necessarily a problem, but more like an observation — directly after releasing a film about a a black heroine, Disney reverts back to their traditional blonde, blue-eyed stereotype.
• Again, not necessarily a problem, but another observation, but umm I thought Disney was going to keep going with the 2D animations. As you see in the video, Rapunzel is definitely a return to computer graphics and technology over at Pixar.
• And one more really cool thing, Alan Menken, the composer behind Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Enchanted, is the composer for Rapunzel.

Mandy Moore is said to be the princess (but I thought originally it was supposed to be Kristin Chenoweth??? Plus, Cheno has the better voice) and Zachary Levi is the hero. Rumor has it the hero is an ‘outlaw’ in this film, so maybe that’ll throw a wrench into the traditional story and the princess might be more then just a character waiting to be saved?

We shall see!
