More balls than brains, show me your tits and other deplorable smutty garbage encompasses the new “Be Stupid” campaign by Diesel.
I need to find a new catch phrase, instead of saying how the human race baffles me sometimes, because I’m beginning to see a pattern of idiotic sheep-like proportions around me. It’s sickening, degrading and a shameless display.
You’re kidding me right?
A trendy, relatively upper-market denim designer label, aimed at 16 to 25-year olds encouraging random sex, foolishness, arrogant dangerous behavior and drugs.
Well, now, isn’t that just dandy.
Diesel has taken what is fundamentally wrong with our society, the things our parents warn us about and things that ARE, in fact, harmful to young people and they have glorified them in an advertising campaign:-
- A young man, clad in jeans dead under an elephant that sat on him.
- A young man with a fish bowl over his head, inside of the fish bowl is smoke (ciggie or mary jane?) so you don’t see his face.
- A young woman hiding under a bed, in her undies and bra, where on top the bed a young man and woman are obviously ‘getting it on.’ However, because of how the woman under the bed is dressed, it can be inferred that she too, was engaging the young man before the other young woman entered the picture.
- A young woman raising her t-shirt to bare her breasts to a security camera.
- A young woman as a potential piece of meat for a male lion.
- A young man depicting to be ‘hung like an elephant.’
“Stupid is the relentless pursuit of a regret free life“…
… except if you end up in jail, get pregnant under age, irrevocably damage yourself or someone else, go bankrupt, get fired or die.
Did I miss the memo where it’s now a new decade and suddenly that makes it okay to glorify the Jackass behavior Johnny Knoxville and company warned people NOT to try at home?
Imagine my surprise and bewilderment walking through the streets of Manhattan during the second week of January 2010, while I was there visiting some family, only to pass by some of these horrendous adverts and have my family turn to me to say,
“Isn’t that what you do? You’re people came up with that?”
I have younger cousins and some of my friends have younger siblings and I would never want harm to come to them, or be influenced into thinking reckless behavior is going to get them anywhere in life just so they can look “trendy” in a pair of jeans.
However, and it saddens me to say this, parts of this ridiculous campaign are actually really cool, inspiring and rather awesome if you can imagine it. Reading through their website, I found messages and passages of information that talk about living life to it’s fullest and thinking outside of the box. Which is great … except when you have photograph upon photograph of really awful stuff.

Hmmm…
- Hyper-sexual illustrations of women
- Alpha foolish masculinity
- Drugs
- Adultry
- Death
- Reckless sex
- Gluttony
- Implied Foursomes
Did I forget anything?
I don’t know what’s more disturbing:-
- Adults making decisions that this is perfectly okay to influence and market to young people?
or that
- We live in a society where this helps sell?
