{Beautirati Tutorial} Gone Platinum Iridescent Gradient Nails

From normal nails to extraordinary nails with a little creativity and some patience… okay, I lied, a lot of patience!

What you need:-

  • OPI Gone Platinum in 60 Seconds
  • OPI Original Nail Envy Base
  • Creative Nail Speedy Top Coat
  • extra fine, multi-purpose cosmetic glitter (preferably iridescent, and able to be used on the face as well.)

Step 1 – base clean nails with Nail Envy – 1 coat

Step 2 - paint nails, even and thinly, with 2 coats of silver polish

Step 3 - requires a lot of patience - before the second coat of silver polish dries, pour a very, very small amount of glitter  into a napkin. Think about about the size of a quarter dime. A little goes a long way in retrospect. Carefully pour whatever is left over back into your glitter bag.

Think about how people dip the tips of strawberries into chocolate — you’ll be doing that with your nails into the glitter. It’s almost like you’re adding caps of snow glitter to your silver nails as if on a mountain top.

Even imagine it as a french manicure of sorts, with the glitter replacing the white tip — except in thicker bands.

I found this was easily done by holding the napkin either on a table, or in your other hand, and rolling the tip of your nail through the glitter from one end of the nail to the other — as if it was fruit and you only wanted that part dipped.

This should only be done once and it does not have to be perfect — that’s why it’s beautiful :)

Step 3 - seal glitter into nail with a top coat or Speedy over the entire nail. I choose to use Speedy b/c it is extremely fast and the quickest, longest lasting, non-chipping top coat, that isn’t thick, that I’ve come across in my entire life.

No lie.

Step 4 - go back to your Nail Envy, and apply 1 coat of Nail Envy to the glitter area ONLY, after the Speedy has completely dried the nails.

Step 5 - at your own discretion, re-apply Nail Envy as a ‘top coat’ every other day on nails if you need it.

Good luck!!!!

This is how I did my nails for the New Year on December 31 — it’s lasted about 8-9 days with the Nail Envy touch ups –  no chips, constant typing on my laptop, washing of hands etc. etc. etc.. :)

The reason I suggest iridescent glitter, multi-purpose cosmetic glitter? — because a) you can use it in the future on your face and b) it doesn’t just have to be a New Year’s/Holiday look. You can rock iridescent glitter on your nails throughout the entire year on top of various nail polish colours :)

  • Wow! This is just gorgeous! I've been doing glitter tips as well, but by dipping my wet nails into glitter and then gently patting on some more to blur the glitter line, but this looks like a much easier method! I'm going to have to go find a pretty holo glitter like that now! This is just gorgeous!!
  • Thanks -- let me know when you try it and if you found my method easier! :)
