It’s autumn and the scent of peppermint hot chocolate is in the air. And while all the little fan girls are swimming with glee over David Archuleta’s Christmas album, their sisters and moms are letting their eyes and ears glaze over in delight as Josh Groban melodically croons on his.
Ahh, I love this time of year. Especially, because I am not alone as the only girl, non-goth girl, wearing dark lacquered nails.
I hate that dark nail colours and only ‘reserved’ for goth girls and people who think they are a Cullen or a Lestat incarnated.
Below are some great darker shades I love and I wear proudly…as a pure Barbie-girly-girl

As I did with reds, these at my top five favourite darks – and yes, again, they are all OPI (in order of preference):-
1. Lincoln Park After Dark
– it’s a purplish, deep, bottle of midnight goodness. It’s my favourite dark colour. It has a sister shade with shimmer called Lincoln Park After Midnight, but the original is by far, in my opinion, still the best.
2. Light My Sapphire
– this is a deep silvery, twilight-like navy blue. It’s so twilight like, that it seems as if there are traces of slate and other grey tones embedded inside of it. I really love this specific colour because it’s sleek, lightly shimmering but very classy.
3. Russian Navy
– this navy blue, has extra fine speckles of iridescent purplish, red flakes. It’s a colour that reminds of two-toned Indian silk. It’s so beautiful. I actually prefer to wear this in the autumn and outside of the autumn months because of this colour’s illustrious beauty in the sunlight.
4. Black Onyx
– you want black nail lacquer that doesn’t look cheap, has exquisite colour depth and is a rich shade of dark goodness? Then this is the brand and black for you. Period.
5. Nicole’s Ni-Coal
– this is a shimmering, deep grey, coal black. For those of you who don’t know, Nicole is owned by OPI and is supposedly named after the founder of OPI’s daughter. Anyway, that was the story I heard. I’m not a big fan of grey on your nails because I always found it make your hands pale and draws the colour out of them. However, that being said, Ni-Coal isn’t like that. It’s sparkly and is a great alternative to pure black. This is especially true, in my opinion, if you are a businesswoman and attending various holiday parties.
