I frickin’ love these dudes. My cousin Kavita introduced me to their music many moons ago via an online holiday card (from the now offline) Beat Greets!
Abbreviated as TSO, they are a roch orchestra founded in 1996 by Paul O’Neill, Jon Oliva, Robert Kinkel and Al Pitrelli. TSO is a mix of progressive rock, symphonic metal (think Within Temptation and Nightwish), heavy metal (think Metallica) and it is heavily influenced by classical music.
Contrary to popular belief (including my own until I found this out), they aren’t an Eastern European recording group, but rather were formed in New York City, right here in the United States.
All of their albums, save one, are Christmas related:
- Christmas Eve and Other Stories
- The Christmas Attic
- Beethoven’s Last Night
- The Lost Christmas Eve
- Night Castle
Once you go Trans-Siberian for the holidays, there is NO going back.
Take a listen, tell me what you think…because from October 1st to January 15th each season, I totally rock out to this:
One of my favourite holidays songs EVER…like top 5--
