Fashion week is well under way after the big FNO kick-off and two days of shows. It’s time to get down to business. Since you don’t have time to look at every full collection, we’re going to do you a favor. We’re giving you what you need to know about what came down the runway. Enjoy the extra time…

Vena Cava – Interesting use of accessories here: aviators, visors, and black bangles from Tiffany & Co layered on. Cropped pants popped up. Khaki, gray, orange, and black all over. That safety pin top is HOT. Totally love the dreamy star print. We’ll be seeing these pieces on TV, mags, and on the street… and hopefully in our closets.

Davidelfin – Light turquoise to navy and absolutely no black. I’m not even posting pictures of this one because the collection depresses me. Very androgynous. The color scheme reminded me of mouthwash. The more I look at it, the less I can stand it. I’d rather not wear anything.

BCBG – Front-row  b-list “controversy” aside, this show wasn’t too bad. Not a single pastel in sight, which is refreshing. Instead solids and prints with electric blue, green, a bright melon red-orange, black, and white. Bandage wrapping and mesh panels. Prints with bright spatters of color mixed into garments. Both flowy and bodycon garments in this all dress collection.

Elie Tahari – She’s been stepping up her game for awhile. Clean, comfortable, and cool. Khaki, gray, orange, light wash jeans. Shorts, cropped pants, rolled/cuffed leg. Layers of silk. T-shirts. Sweatpants. Skinny belts and cardigans. Love the jean look on the model. Emphasis on “ON THE MODEL”, because if you aren’t over 6 ft in heels, you shouldn’t wear those pants.

Rachel Comey – Comey’s garments are so damned wearable. Orange, gray, khaki, yellow, blue and hints of pinks in prints dominate this collection. Adorable prints and plaid. Really adore the bustier dresses and the jacket above. Very sporty but sweet.

WAYNEMOSAIC {iStyle} NYFW SS10 Day 1

Wayne – White, black, khaki, gray, and yellow throughout this minimalist chic collection. Beautiful draping. I can see some fashionistas coveting those mesh paneled leggings. Tons of leg. Slightly confused by the leather jacket in a spring/summer collection. Keep an eye out for those leather accessories she debuted here.

pgMOSAIC {iStyle} NYFW SS10 Day 1

Prabal Gurung – White, black, a few reds and cobalt blues. Bits of mesh and frequently appearing bows. Love the big ruffles and polkadots. Very well edited collection. I can’t pick a favorite. They are all so very chic.

Organic – Sweet, vintage feel. Must have that purple floral print dress. Cute peaks of knee high sheer socks rolled down in several looks. I keep thinking Paris when looking at this collection {the city, not Hilton.}

mlmosaic {iStyle} NYFW SS10 Day 1

Monique Lhullier – More brights. Yellow and that rusted orange. That embellished dress in the 2nd picture is to die for. Come on Zoe, say it: “I die!” Plenty of red-carpet worthy dresses here. Also, some nicely done animal print.

L.A.M.B. – Lace leggings, acid wash jeans, studded belts and suspenders, more pantslessness, a mean white jumpsuit, shit-tons of exposed shoulders and oversized shirts. As always, Stefani loves her plaid.

HLMOSAIC {iStyle} NYFW SS10 Day 1

Helmut Lang – Note to Helmut Lang: Please kill the f-ing harem pants. I swear, I didn’t want to look at anything below the waist because almost every freakin’ look was a drop-crotch mess. The tops and dresses were beautiful. Great jackets. Just don’t look at the pants.

jenkaomosaic {iStyle} NYFW SS10 Day 1

Jen Kao – Lots of ethereal, thin, sheer looks. A touch of blue here and there, but mostly variations of white, khaki and gray. Beautiful collection. Everything is so dreamy. I’m just drooling over everything. Looks like there’s a little something for every body type, which is awesome. One of my favorite pieces? That jacket dress in the 3rd picture above.

JKMosaic {iStyle} NYFW SS10 Day 1

Jenni Kayne – I don’t think that Kayne could have screamed American Sportswear any louder unless she morphed into a man and called herself Ralph. Except for the sequined pants and the one no-pants look. Again, more navy, khaki and yellow. A few of the better pieces included here. There were a few “blah” looks.

Ports 1961 – I’ll give you one guess at the inspiration… Asian influence much? It was so hard to pick images to represent this collection because the entire line was absolutely GORGEOUS. Lots of wide, obi style belts. Watery painted flowers on a few garments. Reds, whites, pinks, and muted metallics. If you get your hands on one of these, hold on to it. These are the pieces you can look back at in 10, 20, or 30 years and still find relevant.

Lyn Devon - A collection full of brights, graphic prints, and ladylike silhouettes. Nipped waists and to the knee skirts with the punches of graphics or color kept this collection fun.

*Missing from this list are the Lorick and Angel shows. Will add them soon.

So far:

No pastels in sight with the exception of a touch of pink in one of Comey’s prints, the sort-of pink at Ports, and maybe Jen Kao’s show, but I really don’t think of the muted color there as pastel. Instead, quite a bit of bright blue, orange, black, gray, khaki, and white.

Cropped and rolled pants all over the place. Short girls beware.

Tees, sweats, and other easy fabrics in several collections. On the fancier side, hints of sheerness with mesh, thin silks and chiffon. Lots of great flowing fabrics. I think the lightness came in fabric more than color this season.

Everyone had draping, bustiers, or both.

Just one question: Will the pantslessness ever end?
