OMG – the love of my geekette-techie life broke and my communication to the outside world ended.
That’s right, at 9 a.m. (ET) this morning I tried to log-in to the world of tweeting goodness and just won’t load.
Do you hear me?
It.Just.Won’t.Load.
My heart fell into my stomach and I think my eyes glazed over for a millisecond.
I jumped onto my Gmail and found one of my PR-tweeps, David, was online too. He’s a Twitter addict as well.
Guess what? He’s in mourning too this morning:
Sasha: Morning David
is your Twitter working?
David: no!
Sasha: well is it loading?
David: its not
Sasha: me either
okay, good, it’s not just me
lol
David: i’m getting quite frustrated!
David: i’ve been reloading like every 2 minutes – serious addiction
Sasha: me too
every 5 minutes though
I’m a bit better off than you by like 3 minutes (more of patience)
lol
damn it david, need the blue birdy this morning – whhhhhhhhhhyyyyyy?
Hi my name is Sasha, I’m a Twitter addict. It’s official.
I know; I accept; I refuse to move on.
But before you jump down my throat and laugh at me for contemplating to even purchase a Twitter jersey – let me tell you WHY:
Twitter is my saturated personal RSS
I can “follow” PC Magazine, Wired, Breaking News, The Huffington Post, AP, Reuters, Good Morning America, ADAge, CNN, BBC, Mashable, the Miami Herald and a fake version of Karl Lagerfeld.
So basically, as something happens…guess what?
I hear about it instantly. Remember CNN and the Iranian Election Controversy? Well, guess where the best news was had? – Twitter.
I don’t know if you are observant, a news addict, like to be in “the know” and are probably a Geek(ette) like myself, but I can get a lot of what I want, from anywhere in the world, via Twitter.
Me + Twitter = networking
I can’t begin to tell you what as asset Twitter has been to me. So much so I was recently featured in the Miami Herald and NPR as an active “Tweeter” leveraging the social media outlet to find a job.
I’ve met some pretty amazing people on there who are public relations professionals, social media geniuses and communications savvy pirates who know all about how to get the booty.
From Twitter, I’ve gained job interviews, friends, new associates and I’ve even gotten sweet shopping deals!
Twitter is a giant network of networks. It’s this vast virtual-terrain of 140 character “tweets” oozing in knowledge, people and it is a one of a kind experience.
Twitter promotes; Twitter shares
I learn some much for Twitter it’s unreal.
Twitter is my addiction, it’s like this instant Wikipedia on a cracked-trip. It’s not just about getting information, it’s about sharing information. Oh my, thinking about this…geesh, I am such a Millennial. Talk about the need for instant gratification.
I check Twitter like I check my email. What about you? You either like it or you don’t. You have use for it or you don’t. It’s really that simple.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a real RSS feed, go to news.google.com on a regular basis and actually put on the television to watch the news. But believe me, CNN is not Twitter. The BBC is not Twitter. The AP is not Twitter.
The world is such a big place and Twitter makes it smaller.
As a public relations professional, I live for stuff like this. I live for “the know,” “the how,” and the “why.” But I know I’m not the only one…even outside of the PR-world.
What if Twitter never existed? What if Facebook never existed? Better yet…what if Google never existed?
What would we do? Heaven help, me, what would I do?
In this day and age, we are so technology driven, that we rely too heavily on cyber connections that when one (one of the big ones for that matter) has it’s very own “#fail” – what in the world would we do?
~*~
P.S.,
My Facebook is going dead. Apparently, I’m NOT the only one there either — so dare I ask:
Is the Twitter downtime, pushing Facebook into massive overload???
On a self-satisfying not: seems Pete Cashmore heard my plea (I like to think, lol) –
(Sasha’s Facebook status:)
…*sniffles* WHY isn’t Twitter working this morning. I NEED it!!! :-/ Dear Facebook, if you killed Twitter, I won’t be a happy-Sasha. (Dear Mashable, help!!!)
and Mashable just wrote up something on the downtime…
