Is it just me? It can’t just be me, who REALLY wants to know what President Clinton said to Kim Jong Il to be granted a “special pardon” for the two American journalists held prisoner in North Korea.

Back in March 2009, the North Korean military detained Euna Lee and Laura Ling, sister of broadcaster Lisa Ling, who were working for the U.S. independent, cable television network, Current TV. The two were accused of allegedly crossing into North Korea from the People’s Republic of China without a proper visa.

Found guilty of trespassing they were sentenced to 12 years hard labor in June 2009.

It’s been nearly five months and no one has been able to do anything. Marches, letters, public calls for help all led to zip. Quite a few people lost hope, and some held vigils for the two women.

By the way, the United States has no foreign relations in place with North Korea.

Then today, August 4, in an unannounced trip to the Asian nation, President Bill Clinton was granted a “special pardon” on behalf of the journalists by Kim Jong Il.

So I ask, what did he say, that couldn’t be said before?

What did he say, no one else dared too, or could? Or better yet, what did he promise? If anything?

I would safely say Mr. Clinton just boosted his public relations for the Clinton Foundation and his humanitarian efforts.

Lessons, please, Mr. [former] President.

Can I have a copy of your transcript?

Pretty Please :)

UPDATE: August 05, 2009 1:11 p.m. ET

  • It'll be interesting to see if they release what exactly was said. But a part of me thinks Kim just wanted someone of importance to come over there in person just to recognize his power. I wouldn't put that past him.
  • True -- but then why THAT specific Clinton...and why not Obama?

    Begs a couple Qs.
  • I'm super curious about this and I think it actually raises a few questions. The first being, what went down and what was said? Next, why was this Clinton and not Obama? Third, why was this THIS Clinton and not the other one - you know, the one who is actually supposed to be running the foreign policy show right now. Fourth, what else will we have to call Bill in to save? Fifth, does Clinton have pictures on Kim Jong Ill????
  • John, I have nothing to add. You asked what I'm thinking.

Well, at least we have one more reason to know Bill Clinton is basically the
superhero of American presidents -- that's for sure. He's bad a$$. lol
