Hello there :)

Okay, so it’s Banned Books Week! *yay!*

So in lieu of some of the feedback on my Facebook, Twitter and the comments section of my “Hello Banned Books Week” post — I wanted to share with you a list the BBC made for the year 2000 and then updated shortly after. There are two giant lists here, so I turned it into the “Top 200.”

See two links below:

Original BBC List

The Game of the List

I wondered how many I read, since I am a bookworm and I admit to that fact, so here we go.

I’m going to post the Top 200 because there are some on 100-200 that I read as well. I put line breaks in groups of 20 for easy navigation.

Going to use a [x] to signify I read it.
Going to use “bold” formatting to signify I LOVED it.
Going to use “italics” formatting to signify I WANT to read it. more…

Continuing with the Little Pink Book’s coverage of Banned Books Week I wanted to share with you some information from the American Library Association  and a little PR-insight as well. more…

n7903615465 2292654 3199491 Blake: A Social Media Musical Revolution

By: Sarah Fahey, guest blogger

Dashing good looks, manners, charm, wit and a huge amount of talent… oh! and let’s not forget a Classical Brit Award for their debut album!

Blake, a classical crossover group, comprising of Stephen Bowman, Jules Knight, Dominic Tighe and Ollie Baines, first appeared on the scene in 2007 after forming on Facebook.

Whoa. Social media in action, anyone?

Initially compared to G4 and Il Divo, but soon growing into their own for their unique style of harmonies, Blake take well-known classical and pop songs, and together with their Musical Director, Mark Williams, create arrangements which are truly breathtaking.

In early 2009, Dominic Tighe left the group to return to an acting career. The others, still wanting to continue with their music, recruited new member Humphrey Berney using an appeal on Twitter. more…

By invitation only, please RSVP…now!

How many times have you been invited to something, and then well…not invited to something else? For example, remember back in 1997 when people were up in arms because Leonardo DiCaprio wasn’t nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Titanic? Word was he was snubbed by the Oscars. Whether it’s true or not isn’t the point, think about this instead – more…

If you’re an American Idol fan, and even if you’re not, you know who Kris Allen is. He was in a battle for the American Idol crown in 2009 against Adam Lambert. Anyway, the American Idol winner just released his debut song post-Idol called “Live Like We’re Dying.”

No, Tim McGraw fans, not “Live Like You’re Dying,” we’re talking about something completely different… more…

I don’t hide the fact that I love books. I think they are filled with information and give people the opportunity to venture into unknown worlds, learn new things and most of all become more well-rounded individuals. Reading is about stepping out of the box, escapism and growth. Ignorance is a bad thing.

With that in mind, I give you Banned Books Week!

September 26 – October 3, I challenge you to read at least read one book on the list :) Remember not all of these books have been banned, only some of them.

On that note, I encourage you to look at the list below and figure out which ones you have read (feel free to post your response in the comments.)

I did it too:-

I put in bold what I’ve read, I put in italics what I want to read and I put in the colour pink which books more…

It was the worst of times, it was the best of times in these cities to which we, Gen-Y, are living.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, the Baby Boomers were described as flower children. They were radical, they wanted world peace, heck, they wanted to change the world. They were obsessed with the environment and hugged trees. This was a generation that felt they were entitled. Most of all, what was up with the fashions: bare bellies, shaggy hair and Twiggy eyes.

Whoa.

But wait a minute, does any of that sound familiar to you? Are the Boomers describing themselves when they describe us? I mean I don’t think my parents are so bad… I don’t know what they were like before I was born, but I think they turned out okay. So why can’t I?

On that note, while the recession is a hindering factor in the job hunt for so many Millennials (80 Million Strong anyone?), maybe it isn’t such a bad thing?

Someone told me that I sounded more than frustrated recently and that maybe my hurt for the current state of affairs ran deeper that just frustration. I cannot say that they were right, but I cannot say they were wrong either. I feel like we have choices, and we make them the best that we can given our circumstances.

Karma has a funny way of going full circle and life has an even funnier way of working out. Go on a outlandish philosophical thought with me for a minute here…

The recession is trying us: our pockets, our freedom, our livelihood, our day-to-day activities; you name it. more…

Welcome to our first ever {Chic Fashionista} post and what better way to start it off than with Lou Lou Bell, the inspiration and reason! About two months ago I was contacted by a pretty cool chickie-dee from Nova Scotia named Lyndsay who told me about her handmade purses called Lou Lou Bell. She asked me if I would review one for the Little Pink Book. Having never done these non-makeup reviews on here before, I decided it was time to start!

As most of you know, if you read {Rules of PR} last week, I was in New York City for the Labor Day holiday weekend here in the states. I took my mini-vacay as the perfect opportunity to put these bags to the test — so behold! more…

Hi Pink Book Readers,

I’ve been meaning to start this on LPB for awhile now. A little something called {Heal the World}. I’ve always believed in community service and I volunteer a lot for different things. If you know me in real life, you might have actually been hauled to volunteer with me before, or better yet, that’s how you know me.

Initially, I wanted to showcase different non-profit organizations with {Heal the World} and show you about the vast opportunities there are out there to get involved, lead by example and become one with your community.

Volunteering doesn’t have to be about something morbid and bleak, or death and destruction. It could be about something fun, something you enjoy, maybe an organization you believe in.

Either way, I don’t do this very often, but for my first {Heal the World} post, I thought I would make it just a tad personal: a fellow Gator alumni and PR professional reached out to me about a project she’s been up to and I found her story very touching. I wanted to share more…

Is it me or has the communications world gone bonkers in the past two weeks? First PRSA last week, then Aunty B & the Gen-Y coffee issue this week and now another communications professional taking to her blog to call out a peer about his social media non-profit project?

Am I missing something here?

In a post that went up on Monday, Barbara Talisman questioned the legitimacy of a decently well-known, online charitable brand called 12For12K. Started by Danny Brown, the organization’s main goals are to raise $12,000 dollars per organization per month and also raise awareness for each of these causes using social media. more…

Sometimes I read things that really make me question the working world; especially, as someone entering it. These stories are scary and feel like they are out of a bad version of the Devil Wears Prada.

Yesterday, I read something on Australia’s Smart Company by Aunty B, a business wiz woman who takes questions from disgruntled, confused and often clueless people about the corporate agenda.

But yesterday’s question, not only surprised me, but I’ll admit I was quite disgusted by it as more…
