Vince Camuto Launches His New Fragrance ‘Femme’

Recognized for his smart and sophisticated style, Vince Camuto launches his new fragrance, Femme, this month.

Inspired by iconic and glamorous women, Femme reflects the captivating and alluring individuality of the modern woman.

I had a chance to sit down and chat with Vince and his wife, Louise, at the fragrance launch. Take a look:

SM: What inspired the Femme bottle? It’s very pretty.

VC: We were at a restaurant, at the bar —

LC: — in Hong Kong —

VC: — and they had these old, vintage cognac bottles. Beautiful bottle work —

LC: — it was classic. And we loved how chic, classic and bold they were.

SM: Wow, that’s awesome. I wouldn’t have expected that.

LC: Yes, and you can see on the bottle it’s very chic, very feminine. We really wanted to give it that beautiful touch.

VC: And the colour, that’s the Pantone colour of 2014. A happy coincidence!

SM: Orchids. Is that what inspired the scent?

VC: The scent is inspired by the delphinium flower. We have it growing in our garden, it’s beautiful. We shot the commercial for Femme at our home [Villa Maria Estate in Water Mill, NY] in Long Island as well.

SM: Wow, I had no idea. It looks so beautiful. And the music seems familiar and French, what is it?

LC: We love Melody Gardot. We’ve been listening to her for awhile —

VC: — maybe two summers now, non-stop —

LC: — and we wanted to create that feeling as well.

SM: So I know you said that the fragrance is inspired by classic icons. If you had to identify an icon who would it be?

VC: Grace Kelly… and maybe Sophia Loren. Definitely Grace and Sophia. They had that elegance, femininity, passion …

SM: And if you had to choose a contemporary icon?

VC: The woman from the Woody Allen film…

SM: Scarlett Johansson?

VC: Her too, but not the one I was thinking of… the other one…

SM: Cate Blanchett? Cate Blanchett in “Blue Jasmine?”

VC: Yes! She is gorgeous. Beautiful. Elegant, feminine, we love her.

SM: So, where are you from originally?

VC: I was born and raised in New York. Here in Manhattan. On East 10th Street on the Lower East Side. Do you know the building still stands?

SM: Really? That’s so amazing!

VC: Yes, and we are coming out with a book later this year with Assouline, the pictures of the building will be in it.

SM: That’s so cool. So wait then, tell me, what’s your favourite neighbourhood in New York if you are from here?

VC: Soho. I like downtown [smiles]

  • Base: Patchouli, Vetiver, Amber, Vanilla, Musk

Femme will be available at Macy’s and in the Eau de Parfum, Body Lotion and Shower Gel.
