Tadashi Shoji SS13

Tadashi Shoji is one of the most creative and elegant designers on the planet.

He uses his travels for his inspirations and his SS13 collection was no exception.

Embroidered in blue, the first outfit of his runway show embodied California, or specifically rather, the echoing of a Venetian tablecloth Shoji found at the Rose Bowl Market in Pasadena.

We loved the use of ivory, neutrals and other warm tones. His colour palette set a tone of gentleness that, when brought forth by lace, made our hearts go patter-pitter-pump-patter-with-glee.

Something different to see this season from Shoji was his use of lace shorts and breezy blouses for SS13, a more casual detour from his traditional gowns and flowing dresses.

The West Coast aside, other inspirations for his SS13 collection came from the caves of Dunhuang to Xi’an to the Gobi desert.

Most of all, the series of pleated ikat-print dresses earned a few “ooohs” where I was sitting.
