For this tutorial, I thought I’d intertwine two nail polishes with ‘loaded’ names for kicks and giggles: Katy Perry for OPI – Teenage Dream and NARS Orgasm!
Here is a playlist for you on Spotify, which inspired my tutorial
Some thoughts to consider:-
- Teenage Dream
Described by OPI as,
“A dreamy pink glitter that you’re sure to crush on! Dazzling, colorful and totally unique… that’s Katy Perry.”
For me, I love this glitter polish.
It’s absolutely gorgeous.
For the longest time, I really wished that I had had the full-size bottle of OPI’s “I Lily Love You” from their 2011 Nice Stems Collection. Then I met “Teenage Dream” and, while, I still really enjoyed “I Lily Love You” (especially, on top of a vibrant, bright pink), I realized I had more use for a full-size bottle of something like “Teenage Dream” or similar.
It’s pigmented, yes. But it also has layers of tiny pink glitter flecks, intermixed with larger, holographic circular shaped flecks. These holographic flecks are ideal.
They make the polish.
Think glam in a bottle… kind of like Katy performing “Waking Up in Vegas” with Adam Lambert’s name glittering on her cape during American Idol.
Described by NARS as,
“Peachy pink with golden shimmer.”
I love this colour on its own or underneath something else.
One of the biggest misconceptions that a lot of people have (and what I also think is the biggest issue with this polish) is that people try to load on more than two coats of the stuff on their nails for pigmentation.
I don’t think that this was meant to me used like that — I certainly don’t use it like that. (** If you do want to use it on it’s own, use two coats then apply a thin third coat only on the top of the nail where the tips are.**)
Overall, this is the coral solution for that summery polish everyone wants that doesn’t scream orange in your face.
One of the things I love about it though is that “Orgasm,” like “Teenage Dream,” has tiny glitter flecks inside of it. In the case of “Orgasm” they are faint golden flakes.
It’s definitely more peach than pink, but definitely worth the purchase.
I’ve had this colour for over two years and I love it. In fact, I love this collection by NARS so much so I also happen to own Super Orgasm blush and Super Orgasm lipgloss.
So the only thing better than NARS “Orgasm?”
If they made SUPER ORGASM nail polish to match the lipgloss and blush with giant golden flakes rather than tiny, subtle ones!
What can I say?
I’m a glutton for sparkles.
For this tutorial/swatches I used:-
- Butter London Nail Foundation – Flawless Basecoat
- NARS “Orgasm”
- OPI “Teenage Dream”
- Butter London Hardwear – P.D. Quick Top Coat
- Nail Tek’s 10-Speed Polish Drying Drops
Apply one coat of your base coat. In my case the Butter London Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat.
Wait for it to dry.
If you need to touch up any areas to make it more even and smooth — apply as needed.
Apply one coat of NARS “Orgasm” and let it dry.
Apply a second coat of NARS “Orgasm” and let it dry.
If you feel as if you need a third coat — go for it. However, I do not recommend it.
Apply a single coat of OPI “Teenage Dream” in one swipe over the entire nail and let it dry.
Once it dries, take more of “Teenage Dream” and apply ONLY to the tips of your nails in a very brief, very quick tap/swipe.
Let it dry completely.
Apply one to two coats of your top coat, in my case this is Butter London’s Hardwear P.D. Quick Top Coat.
You can see the two-tone effect below with FLASH ON:
Apply, if necessary, a nail dryer.
I personally prefer Nail Tek’s 10-Speed Polish Drying Drops
Teenage Dream on it’s own:-
