FW12 Up-and-Coming Designer to Watch at NYFW is…

With New York Fashion Week approaching, we’re always excited to see what new designs, trends and collections will be showcased.

It’s that time of the year when new designers emerge, seasoned ones show us exactly why they are ‘it’ and lots of us channel our inner Rachel Zoe, thinking, “I dieee!” upon seeing something we really like.

This season, one of the new designers we’re very much looking forward to seeing is Norisol Ferrari.

A native of Venezuela, she grew up in New York in the 1980s and considers herself, “nurtured by drag queens and nightlife impresarios.”

Ferrari is an expert at creating handmade luxury leather items as well as handcrafting furs.

She believes in this notion of a “second skin,” where leather and fur can be used to created beautiful flawless looks that not only compliment the wearer’s individual style, but also accentuate their individuality.

In essence, this is bespoke tailoring and is very much so how Alexander McQueen started his career.

We absolutely love Ferrari’s edge, with distinctive Victorian and Gothic references.

In some ways, she reminds us greatly of the Rick Owens leather lust.

Norisol Ferrari and Janet Jackson meet backstage at the Number Ones 2011 Tour. Both are wearing the Dawn jacket, Norisol in American Alligator and Janet in American Deer.

Each piece from a Norisol Ferrari collection is handmade in New York and bears a long leather tag inscribed with the signature of the people who made it.

Her work is truly an expression of patience and freedom.

We’re really looking forward to seeing what she comes up with for F/W 2012 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
