Without a doubt our favourite collection from S/S 2012 Couture belongs to Valentino.
Looking at the pieces feels like Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri channeled their inner English garden and traveled back in time to inquire after such with Jane Austen.
However, they actually found their inspiration through eighteenth century French thought from the Age of Enlightenment.
Particularly, they were inspired by the “real” values that Rousseau endorsed in his State of Nature philosophy.
There were dresses with up to five layers of lace and organza, other sprigged with floral prints, circular and swirly bouilloné decorations and most of all, there was stitching that was so fine, it looks almost invisible.
It’s the type of workmanship that a atelier can be proud of — boastful even.
Delicacy is a gift and an art.
It is something the Valentino label nailed with the utmost precision for their couture show.
