Spring 2012 Couture: Christian Dior [VIDEO]

Between the black crocodile patent scales and floral designs, the Spring 2012 Couture collection from Christian Dior is extremely fashiona-tulle.

Sheer layers were a common trend, exposing the wearer’s undergarments and/or breasts.

There was also this odd Betty-Draper-meets-science-fiction-costume feel to some pieces, where they seemed almost…unfinished.

However, while stunning, the collection did feel a bit like 1980s Dior, with some of the styles beautifully tailored but lacking a certain freshness.

John Galliano always had a flair for the minute mechanisms of what made haute couture work and he always had his pulse on how to bring together the unexpected with the usual.

Bill Gaytten was able to do that, but not quite with the same, for lack of a better term, ‘ooomph!’ that Galliano possessed.

High hopes are hanging on his third upcoming collection for the label, and if not, we would like to see John return to fulfill the path that he walked so well.
