Easily one of the largest pre-Fall 2012 collections, boasting over 70+ pieces, French Fashion House Chanel left nothing to be desired in their ode to Eastern sensuality interlaced with Western couture.
Karl Lagerfeld has never been to India and said, “It’s much more inspiring not to go to places than to go,” after his collection debuted in Paris.
The theme of the show, “Paris-Bombay” was to remind fans and the fashion industry alike that Europeans have been increasingly turning to the emerging market (India, that is) to produce extravagantly handmade pieces that have become too expensive to make locally.
The interesting thing about the concept (and Lagerfeld’s plan), was that he turned the tables on the industry with the collection because while it looked inherently Indian, everything was actually made by Chanel’s ateliers in Paris.
Smart, slick and very Uncle Karl.
Regardless, Paris-Bombay is a beautiful, intricate pearl-infested ménage à trois of raw silks, tweeds and sheer paisleys.
Leave it to Lagerfeld to make Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show an infusion of decadence and theatrics that only the Grand Palais in Paris could entertain.
