Empire State of Sasha: Becherovka Liquor Tour Edition

Every once in awhile, I get the opportunity to see and do really cool things in New York City.

One of the latest things that I got to experience was a luxury liquor tour through Liquor.com on behalf of Czech brand Becherovka.

Easily compared to Fernet Branca for its herbal, anise, medicinal attributes, Becherovka is a bit more spicy with undertones of cinnamon and cardamom.

It’s about 38% alcohol and comes from Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) in the West Bohemia.

The most interesting thing about  Becherovka, is that while you can guess what you think its made up of, the fact remains, you don’t actually know.

The recipe is a very well kept secret and it’s said that there are only two people in the world who know what the right ingredients and herbs are to create the Czech concoction.

While, typically taken in pure over ice, on my tour I was able to visit two mixologist that came up with some pretty great cocktails for the aficionado in all of us:-

  • Plum Cobbler

Created by Thomas Hagen of Radegast Hall & Biergarten

  • 1.5 oz. Becherovka
  • 1.5 oz. Averell Damson Gin Liqueur
  • 2 dashes of Angostura Orange Bitters

Shake & Strain over Ice in Collins Glass.

Top off with seltzer water.

Float of Bitter men’s Burlesque Bitters.
