Autumn/Winter 2012: Gucci Menswear

We’ve read that the inspiration behind Frida Giannini’s AW12 for Gucci at Milan Fashion Week was Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance as a delicious poet named Arthur Rimbaud in “Total Eclipse.”

Whether you chose to believe (or see) it is purely up to you, but we’ll tell you this: we’re enamored with this collection.

According to Style.com, Giannini mentioned Helmut Berger whose lifestyle defined an entire breed of proto-celebrities in the 1970s.

With that came a slew of Mitteleuropa flourishes in the form of riding boots and equestrian trousers from a Viennese riding academy, numerous dark fin-de-siècle floral prints, tapestry travelling bags and silken tie prints used as the starting point for rich jacquards.

One of our favourite pieces is the crocodile, brown leather briefcase.

It’s sheer colour makes this accessory a statement piece like no other.

In fact, it oddly, but nostalgically, reminds us of a pair of our Via Spiga boots.

On that note, two-toned men’s shoes are definitely IN this season as we’ve seen with countless Houses placing them into their collections.
