Porsche Design Shows Versatility And New RawTec Technology at NYFW

In a partnership with Vogue magazine, Porsche Design celebrated their Fashion’s Night Out 2011 in “A Global Celebration of Fashion.”

This notion extended throughout Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week as Porsche Design highlighted their orange Porsche Design P’1820 Scarf and new designs on site at NYFW.

With their 40th Anniversary quickly approaching, the silk scarf, for example, shows Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s very first sketch of the so-called “exclusive spectacles” with its revolutionary lens replacement mechanism.

The sunglasses and the 1977 sketch have been Porsche Design’s first dedication to the world of fashion.

This particular fashion collection, for the autumn/winter season 2011, is their most extensive ever.

For the first time, the luxury brand pieced together a men’s collection and ladies’ leather jackets, ladies’ wear and premium jeans.

Something particular to look out for is the P’1140 RawTec Blazer.

This is a stunning piece (and one day I wish I can afford to buy one for myself)!

Porsche Design prides itself on being purist and timeless, and they hoped to evoke that through their new men’s and women’s P’1140 RawTec Blazers.

“It’s about quality craftsmanship and details,” said Christian Weiss, Porsche Design Director of Public Relations.

“We want our clothing to be purist and timeless, but functional as well.”

Through the use of finest full-grain lamb leather, which has been coated on the inside, the leather jackets go completely without lining.

Therefore, they are not only striking in appearance but also supremely comfortable to wear.

The secret of their attraction lies in the first class workmanship and the unusual crafting, true to the manufacturing concept which accords great importance to detail and which comes without any duplication of materials: the leather is put edge-to-edge, sewed by a zig-zag stitching – also without overlap – and fused with a tape.

The result is a unique lightness and an exceptionally purist look.

“The beautiful thing about these items is that they can be elegant, but casual,” Weiss explained.

The fact that the products in the new Fashion Collection are intelligently cut and excellently crafted is also reflected in their perfect fit.

The uncluttered line and classic sporting design appeal to connoisseurs of all ages and give the luxury brand’s Fashion Collection its distinctive look, unmistakable even at first sight.

Another highlight for the winter season is the P’1140 Aviator Jacket – also available in a women’s and a men’s cut.

The lambskin jacket is manufactured from Spanish Merinillo, which is characterized by its lightness and at the same time ensures an optimum body climate.

An additional button-on stand-up collar guarantees warmth for autumn storms or snowy winter days.

The capacious fitted pockets and shoulder patches underline the style of the Aviator Jacket, whose look has been inspired by traditional pilot’s jackets.

Porsche Design is a luxury brand with a special focus on products that are technically inspired.

The product portfolio includes watches, sunglasses, luggage, electronic products, a line of fragrances for men as well as a sport and fashion collection.

The luxury brand’s new fashion collection will be available from September 2011 in Porsche Design Stores worldwide.

On a completely side note, this was absolutely one of my favourite collections this season from NYFW.

When Porsche Design says that their craftsmanship is unmatched, it undoubtedly is.

Similar in mindset to the late Alexander McQueen, who said that the beauty of fine design is foremost within good tailoring, Porsche Design does not disappoint.

My favourite two pieces that I had the pleasure of seeing first hand was P’1140 RawTec Blazer (their “Arctic” jacket was exquisite also) and the commemorative orange silk scarf.

The jacket was elegant, sharp and unbelievably soft. I started dreaming about having one of my own one day… 🙂 *le sigh*

While, the scarf oozed with the quality and beauty that Porsche is known for, but with the chic aura that one would see stemming from Hermes.
