Many brands are betting on iPhone apps to keep their customer base happy.
Recently Gucci launched a very nicely produced app available in eight languages.
It offered travel advice for cities relevant to the brand’s history such as Portofino and Milan, plus glossy, magazine-like features showing how their products are made, interviews with designers, social networking live feeds and robust e-commerce options.
They sell it as an “all-encompassing experience for the luxury brand’s enthusiasts†and it is certainly a well-judged app.

Another brand that is betting on apps is the iconic maker of trendy Wellingtons, Hunter Boots.
It embraces their utilitarian image with an app that focuses on the great outdoors.
It allows you to keep track of festival updates and the ever-changing British weather.
It also has a nifty feature that lets you mark on a map where you left your car or tent, and plenty of social networking features, where you can tag your favourite watering holes, trails and sights, or look up what others have recommended.
But while Gucci and Hunter are very well-established in their respective fields – Kate Moss is often seen wearing both, although maybe not necessarily at the same time – newcomers are also bringing out apps to help captivate consumers and break into new markets.

Havaianas, the Brazilian brand famous for its comfortable and trendy summer flip flops recently launched a range of Rain Boots exclusively to London department store Selfridges featuring eight different vibrant colours and patterns.
They retail for about the same price as Hunter Wellingtons (between £45 and £50), so it remains to be seen whether the ambitious Brazilians can carve themselves a niche in rainy Blighty.

I love the way they look, but I am yet to test if these Brazilian rain boots are as comfortable and sturdy as Hunter ones.
If their flip flops are anything to go by, they should be, as mine are still going strong after several years of constant wear.
If their boots last as well they should be onto a winner.
