Harry Potter Mixology: The Goblet of Fire Cocktail Concoctions Edition

By: Ashley Bryce and Liana Cole

“Eternal glory! That’s what awaits the student who wins The Triwizard Tournament, but to do this that student must survive three tasks. Three extremely dangerous tasks.”

– Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film)

The Triwizard Tournament was comprised of four Champions from three of the largest wizarding schools in Europe: Fleur Delacour from the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, Viktor Krum from Durmstrang Institute, and Cedric Diggory and Harry Potter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Chosen from the Goblet of Fire, each of the Champions risked their lives to bring honor to their schools, and glory to themselves.

It is only fitting that they be honored with cocktails that represent each of their unique talents (Harry Potter will be featured at a later date).

The Goblet of Fire

The Goblet of Fire is an impartial judge used to decide which Champion from each school will compete for fame, fortune, and eternal glory.

Impartial but dangerous, once a name is chosen from the Goblet the participant must compete, entering into a binding magical contract.

Pyromaniacs get excited, lets set this Goblet on fire. [Read more…]

OMG It’s EPIC! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Trailer

I. have. no. words.

I, like many of you my age, grew up reading Harry Potter.

I read my first book when I was 13-years old. If math isn’t your forte, that was, in fact, 13-years ago this summer.

It. Is. Going. To. Be. EPIC.

B in BRICs: The Brazilian Fashion Boom is Here to Stay

Picture from ifashion

In a recent article for The Business of Fashion,  Suleman Anaya talks about the role that fashion is playing in boosting not only the Brazilian economy, but the country’s profile and national self-esteem.

“Significantly, the tremendous energy in Brazil’s fashion market is flowing from both inside and outside the country. For global fashion brands, Brazil is a land of opportunity.”

It’s not just about the money though.

Sure, a booming economy, specially in the context of recession in Europe and the US is helping people to spend confidently in quality and luxury goods, but of all the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China) Brazil stands alone in having a robust fashion industry that exports its goods globally.

The success of labels such as Issa (who designed Kate Middleton’s famous engagement dress) and Victor Dzenk prove that there is a healthy appetite abroad for Brazilian design. [Read more…]

Inhale Courage, Exhale Fear: Perspective

“Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permission of another.”

Madonna did it better than anyone else I’ve ever seen, heard of or known.

From Whose That Girl to Blonde Ambition right along to her Confessions, ‘Her Madgesty’ is the queen of self-reinvention.

I try to live by this saying I made up for myself not too long ago, that when life throws you limes and some salt, turn it into a sparkling margarita.

Or, rather I’m a firm believer in muddling those limes and making a caipirinha.

Understandable, that that phrase is easier said than done, but it’s the key to self-reinvention.

Call it, “perspective,” so to speak.

A hard pill to swallow, but good for you, once it’s slinking down your throat, as perspective can heal the mental wrinkles of the brain, soothing away the crazy, but not necessarily numbing the pain.

It’s better than that, it will help you leap over the hurdles in your life. [Read more…]

We have all grown up reading J.K. Rowling’s masterpiece series Harry Potter.

It has been 14-years since the Philosopher’s Stone was released in the UK and now with the release of the final movie fast approaching, we are going to want something stronger than pumpkin juice to toast the end of an era, or at the very least something strong to drown away the no more Harry Potter blues.

What better way to commemorate the Harry Potter legacy than to create cocktails for the most beloved (or despised) characters. [Read more…]

Global Citizenship: What’s Next for Starwood’s Trendy W Hotels Brand?

With the news that Eva Ziegler is leaving her position as the brand and marketing leader for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide’s W (and Le Meridien) brand, the future of the trendy, lifestyle boutique-styled hotel is buzzing in the communications sphere as many are wondering, what’s next?

Having been with Starwood for six years, Ziegler had become known for helping Starwood launch the trend of boutique-styled hotels amongst big chains and also easily juxtaposing it with fashion, music and entertainment.

But as discussed at the 2011 Reuters Global Luxury and Fashion Summit, in a

“post-recession world, high-end hoteliers’ investments are shifting away from fancy freebies like lotion and soap and toward expert service that reflects a real understanding of the guest’s preferences.”

Laurence Geller, Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Hotels & Resorts Inc (Four Seasons, Intercontinental etc.), pointed out that these days amenities don’t impress.

In fact, he stressed, [Read more…]
