Inhale Courage, Exhale Fear: Perspective

“Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permission of another.”

Madonna Louise Ciccone

Madonna did it better than anyone else I’ve ever seen, heard of or known.

From Whose That Girl to Blonde Ambition right along to her Confessions, ‘Her Madgesty’ is the queen of self-reinvention.

I try to live by this saying I made up for myself not too long ago, that when life throws you limes and some salt, turn it into a sparkling margarita.

Or, rather I’m a firm believer in muddling those limes and making a caipirinha.

Understandable, that that phrase is easier said than done, but it’s the key to self-reinvention.

Call it, “perspective,” so to speak.

A hard pill to swallow, but good for you, once it’s slinking down your throat, as perspective can heal the mental wrinkles of the brain, soothing away the crazy, but not necessarily numbing the pain.

It’s better than that, it will help you leap over the hurdles in your life.

“Better to live one year as a tiger, than a hundred as a sheep.”

– Madonna Louise Ciccone

Perspective is everything and nothing at all.

It is the reality that you give to yourself and sometimes, it harder for you to get there, than to encourage others to get there themselves.

But that’s okay.

Every person wishes he/she was smarter, stronger, thinner, fatter, younger, older, prettier/handsomer, livelier, calmer, more demure, more fervid, more fearless, more… everything at some point in his/her life.

It’s like an alcoholic, you cannot make them stop drinking or force them to go to AA meetings. Or that immature boyfriend you had growing up who broke your heart, you cannot force him to grow up and be a real man. Or a compulsive gambler, you cannot force him to save his pennies and invest them. Those are all things these people have to do on their own.

And as hard as it is, you must make a valiant effort, for your own good, not to let the choices of others affect you from the inside out.

With that perspective, brings you the knowledge and understanding that you must accept what you cannot change and change what you can.

Often I find that when people try to reinvent themselves a couple things happen:

  • drastic unnecessary changes take place
  • they become bitter or angry
  • they become too confident, or not confident enough
  • someone is either too emotional or not emotional enough

These are all extremes.

There is nothing wrong with getting a new haircut, going to the gym (hello!!! endorphins!!!) or changing your wardrobe.

But remember, superficial instant pleasures, cannot replace internal troubles with the heart, soul, body and mind.

They are temporary fixes.

There has to be a healthy balance, and most of all good perspective is being able to think outside of the box.

It’s about finding the humanity inside of you.

“To be brave is to love someone unconditionally, without expecting anything in return. To just give. That takes courage, because we don’t want to fall on our faces or leave ourselves open to hurt.”

– Madonna Louise Ciccone

Perspective determines your reality.

Yes, it really is that simple as it is mind over matter, perception is mental control.

“To me, the whole process of being a brush stroke in someone else’s painting is a little difficult”

– Madonna Louise Ciccone

Hindsight is a great thing.

Love yourself and look out for yourself, because if you don’t … no one else really will.

You are what you have got, so make it worth it…for you.

Tell yourself your are strong enough, beautiful enough and powerful enough to change your perspective…because guess what?

You are enough.

You always have been, and you always will be, you just need to remember that.

You can do it :)  inhale courage, exhale fear…
