Empire State of Sasha: Sud de France NYC 2011

Food, Wine & Sun!

Drawing upon it’s success in the Empire State over the previous two years, the Sud de France Festival is back!

From June 6-June 30, the company invites all New Yorkers to fall into the rhythm of the Mediterranean lifestyle, celebrate and discover the food, wine and culture from the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France.

View from The Frying Pan

On June 6, 2011 I had the privilege of attending their launch party at the Frying Pan, a boat docked at Pier 66.

Joie de vivre!

Themed for guests to enjoy the lifestyle of the South of France, the evening featured various wines, cheeses, foods, music, dancing and an installation of paintings by Languedoc-Roussillon artist Francesca Caruana.

Francesca was also on hand doing a live art performance, “Ivres de Bouteilles,” where she took emptied wine bottles and decorated them.

This year’s calendar of events is aimed at giving wine lovers the opportunity to experience the conviviality and tranquility of everything  Languedoc-Roussillon.

Throughout the city, New Yorkers will find approximately 120 wine stores, restaurants and wine bars offering a taste of Sud de France’s terroir with products that combine savoir-faire, quality and “a splash of Mediterranean sunshine.”

And if you happen to travel this summer, Sud de France is international with festivals held all over the globe in places such as:

La Maison de la Région Languedoc-Roussillon in New York is the American branch of Sud de France Export who is hosting 2011’s events.

Created in 2006, the brand umbrella that is Sud de France seeks to share all of the food and wine products of the Languedoc-Roussillon.

So if you happen to be in New York City this month, check them out!

Perhaps I’ll see you there 🙂

JUNE 9, 16, & 23, 7PM-9PM: Wine Seminars
Through a series of seminars held at the Maison de la Région Languedoc-Roussillon, friends of Sud de France
will teach guests about the diversity and quality of our wines. Themes include tantalizing topics such as Sweet
Wines & Chocolate, Languedoc-Roussillon 101 and a Blending Seminar with wines from a notable producer.

JUNE 20, 7PM-10PM: An Evening at the James Beard Foundation
The young and dynamic chef Charles Fontès will arrive fresh from Montpellier, France in order to prepare an
authentic Sud de France dinner at the James Beard House. Partnering with fellow Languedoc-Roussillon
native Cédric Tovar of Daniel Boulud’s Feast and Fêtes, these two talented chefs will execute an inspired
meal with the perfect Sud de France wines paired with each course.

JUNE 21, 5PM-7PM: Fête de la Musique Cocktail at the French Embassy
The annual “Fête de la musique” takes places on the first day of summer, celebrating music with concerts
across the world. This year’s “fête” starts with a showcase by the pop-rock- electronic band Liptease and
cocktail from 5PM to 7PM (FREE)

JUNE 22, 7PM-10PM: Fête de la Musique Concert at the Hiro Ballroom
Sip your Sud de France wines from the VIP open bar from 7pm to 8pm before enjoying the sounds of French
artists Maïa Vidal, Ben l’Oncle Soul, Louis Bertignac and others, presented by Bureauexport.

JUNE 25, 7PM-10PM: MoMA PopRally featuring Blondes
The iconic Museum of Modern Art will serve Sud de France wines for a transcendent dance party, featuring
guest DJs and a live performance by Blondes. The evening, part of the PopRally series, also invites guests to
discover the exhibits Contemporary Art from the Collection and Impressions from South Africa, 1965 to Now.

JUNE 27, 7PM-9PM: Sud de France Wine Tasting
Sud de France concludes the festival with a wine tasting featuring Vignobles du Soleil, a vineyard in the
Languedoc-Roussillon. With a presenter arriving directly from the region, a selection of wines will help guests
to experience all that it means to invest ones talents and emotions into the beautiful product that is a Sud de
France wine.

These events are perfect for wine lovers as well as those (like me) who are interested in experiencing a new culture and learning about all things grape.

So don’t think that you need to be a connoisseur to attend.

...et moi! x

C’est Magnifique! 🙂
