Inhale Courage, Exhale Fear: In Vino Veritas

“In vino veritas.” – Pliny the Elder

There is this saying in Latin, “In vino veritas,” that roughly translated, it means “in wine there is the truth.”

In essence it means, that after drinking, a persons’ tongue is loosened enough to say what they really think, what they really feel and incidentally, the truth.

Paulo Coelho has this saying where he proclaims that,

“truth resides where there is faith.”

It’s this concept of you get what you give, you receive what you put in.

If you are positive, positively will come to you. If you are negative, negativity will come to you.

We, as a child of God and the universe, have control of the aura around us.

Things may not always go the way we want, but often, they happen for a reason: to teach us a lesson.

Lao Tzu, a Chinese philosopher, conceptualized that at the center of our being, we have all the answers we seek – we just need to look for them. We inherently know who we are, we just have to trust what we want and not be scared or in a hurry.

It’s a concept that life is a series of spontaneous and natural changes – not feeling them or resisting them impairs who you are because you are not allowing yourself the opportunity to grow and to accept the opportunities God and the universe have granted you.

In his blog post, highlighting Tzu as his “character of the week,” Coelho, said:

Respond intelligently even to unintelligent treatment.

The words of truth are always paradoxical.

Truthful words are not beautiful; beautiful words are not truthful.

Good words are not persuasive; persuasive words are not good.

Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

When we least expect it, I have found that life challenges us – kind of like a Keith Urban song, if you think about it.

Whether as a means to test our fortitude, our courage or our willingness (or lack thereof) to change — it gives us opportunities and it gives us these moments whether we are ready or not.

It does not look back, it does not wait — and neither should you.

You either accept, or you don’t.

In vino veritas… inhale courage, exhale fear…
