GUESS? Inc. Opens 13,000 sq ft North American Flagship on 5th Ave

GUESS?, the American lifestyle brand, famous for their denim and black & white adverts, opened the doors to its newest one-stop shop, its brand new North American flagship store, on February 17, 2011.

Located on 575 47th Street, in New York City, this Fifth Avenue stop is just a few minutes walk from Grand Central Station and the Empire State Building, giving it a prime Manhattan location inside one of the world’s premiere shopping areas.

The 13,000 square foot, two-story flagship actually draws its inspiration from its global flagship, which was launched in Milan, Italy last year.

Exceptionally unique and custom-designed features are displayed throughout the store, such as hand-applied Venetian plaster and silver leaf coverings on the walls, and custom-made chandeliers (yay! sparkles!) My personal favourites are  the center pieces hanging from the ceiling as well as the elevator draped in faceted black chain metal mesh (made by the Hudson Furniture company in New York City.)

One of the most unique aspects to the store, adding to its already unique nature, is something that someone those  who pay attention to fine detail can appreciate it, is the store’s tribute to its heritage with eye-catching commissioned artwork.

For example, the store’s second level has a denim rug made from over 500 vintage jean patches. And while, we love this, we’re rather scared that with people trampling in and out, this gorgeous rug will get ruined, as it is rather beautiful.

Over the years, GUESS? has come a long way with their men’s line.

Unlike a lot of other brands out there, they not only cater to the metrosexual, but heterosexual  and homosexual demographics as well.

With a wide variety of necklaces, sunglasses and anklets, the company’s Spring 2011 style is a little bit tropical surfer and a little but contemporary grunge.

For those out there who are Christian/Catholic/Protestant or like to wear religious accessories, they also have a mild selection of rosaries. These pieces are modeled in the same style as the rest of the collection.

Men's Accessories 2011

Men's Accessories 2011 - we would buy this for our boy - super cute!

In the store, there is also a handcrafted installation of over 7,000 authentic denim buttons mounted on a black background and painted with the original GUESS? triangle logo in the store as well adding to the contemporary atmosphere.

One of our favourite features is on the first floor. It is a 12-foot high LED screen that plays behind the scenes videos from GUESS? fashion shows as well as snippets of the shows themselves.

Wine? Why, yes, thank you!

According to Paul Marciano, the Vice-Chairman and Chief Execut9ive of GUESS? Inc.,

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of the 575 Fifth Avenue Flagship. New York is the fashion capital of the United States, with Fifth Avenue as its epicenter.”

He went on to say that the company has come a long way since its inception, designing its first pair of jeans, and while exceptionally proud of that heritage, opening the Fifth Avenue store is one way of celebrating its accomplishments over the years … 30-years in fact!

Needless to say, the opening was quite a bit of fun!

Established in 1981, GUESS? began as a denim company and has since grown into a global lifestyle fashion brand.

To its credit, the brand is the home to full collections of women’s, men’s and children’s apparel as well as a line of accessories including shoes, handbags, jewelry and sunglasses.

We're told this is a strawberry daiquiri us, it was strawberry sweet jelly stuff with a kick

With distribution licenses in South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, we are excited to have experienced the opening of the North American flagship and even if you aren’t in the mood for shopping or a fashionista, we encourage you to take a visit.

oh how we love GUESS?'s advertising campaigns!

If you can appreciate fashion merchandising, on your trip down Fifth Avenue, this destination is worth the trip!

Enjoy 🙂
