The spot features a pint-sized Darth Vader who uses the Force when he discovers the all-new 2012 Passat in the driveway. It leverages humor and the unforgettable Star Warsâ„¢ score to create an emotional commercial.
This has to be one of the cutest, most brilliant commercials we’ve seen in a very long time.
Made to air for Super Bowl 45, it was released and went viral shortly before that. According to the web site “Brand Bowl 2011,” the Star Wars-theme AD was one of the most talked about adverts on Twitter during the past week.
Not only that, but Deutsch LA Creative Director Michael Kadin told NPR that the release of the spot early was intentional,
“These days, it’s all about getting the content ahead of the Super Bowl so you create a buzz before you get to the game.”
Released on February 2, 2011 (almost a full week before it’s on-air date), the advert has over 20 million views, 17,000 comments and 92,000 ‘likes’ on YouTube and is still growing.
