“Follow Me” – 4 Reasons Why I Will NOT Follow You Back on Twitter

X7VTF3T5X7N5

I love Twitter. I love talking to people on Twitter. I love learning new things and meeting new people on Twitter. But I do it on my own terms, no exceptions. Period.

This whole, follow me and I’ll follow you back nonsense is a load of crap. A large load of smelly, mushy, fly-surrounding crap.

I loathe it and it’s a deal breaker when I engage into a conversation with someone and they tell me (no less than five tweets later), “follow me back please.”

Umm…no.

Here’s the thing:- [Read more...]

Writing Is…… – #NAACP #NAACPLDF

Linda Cronin via Flickr

Dear Pink Book readers,

I typically do not introduce guest bloggers, but I would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to Mr. Lee Daniels, the Communications Director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Daniels recently as the NAACP LDF is a current client of mine.

After reading, COMMENTARY: Writing, Society & the Lack of Education Plaguing Our Nation, Mr. Daniels had some insightful and great comments to share.

Over the past 35 years Mr. Daniels has reported for three of the most well-known and prominent media outlets in the United States, WGBH-TV in Boston, the Washington Post, and the New York Times. He has edited The State of Black America, Opportunity Journal and the National Urban League. Mr. Daniels was at the Urban League for nearly a decade and was also the ghost-writer for the weekly, syndicated and acclaimed column, “To Be Equal.”

Without further ado, guys and dolls, I give you Mr. Lee Daniels…

:)

As one who has been fortunate enough to live out a childhood dream – being a reporter and writer of non-fiction all my adult life — your commentary of April 7 about the decline of good writing skills reminded me of my grappling with this very issue in the seemingly long-ago mid-1990s: when computers were primitive by today’s standards and cellphones as we know them today barely visible on the horizon.

The cause, I decided then and am even more sure of today, lies in the negative impact of technology.

Let me explain:

I was then teaching expository writing to first-year [Read more...]

I’m not an expert, but I do know a thing or two about interning. In some circles, I’ve been dubbed the Queen of Extracurricular Activities. I’m not by any means perfect, but I could share a thing or two on how I did it, did it well and survived to tell the tale. [Read more...]

A Wicked #MusicMonday with a little Kristen Chenoweth :) [w/ animations]

Copyright © 2010 Sasha H. Muradali. All Rights Reserved.

Last week, I feature Idina Menzel as my #MusicMonday, so this week it’s only fitting that I feature the incredibly talented Kristen Chenoweth and continue my Broadway kick :)

For those of you who don’t know who she is, Kristin Chenoweth is an American born singer, actress and musical theatre powerhouse. She was the original Galinda (with a ‘Ga’) in Stephen Schwartz’s “Wicked” (alongside the amazing Idina Menzel.) She’s also really well-known for her role as Annabeth on The West Wing as well as for winning an Emmy Award for playing Olive in Pushing Daisies. Her voice is a coloratura soprano — which basically means, yes, for such a little woman (she’s 4 feet 11 inches) she’s an opera singer too! Speaking of which, you might recognize her from singing and acting as Marion in 2003′s “The Music Man.” You might have also seen her in “Bewitched,” “RV,” “Deck the Halls,” “The Pink Panther,”  and “Four Christmases.”

Kristin Chenoweth

One of my favourite bits I ever saw her do, was the intro to the 2005 Tony Awards with Hugh Jackman, she’s adorable!

SNL Brings Back Tiny Fey’s Sarah Palin

via PopCrunch!

Live from New York — it’s Sarah Palin!…not.

I was in fits and giggles when Tina Fey parodied then-Governor Sarah Palin in 2008 on Saturday Night Live! It was witty, scarily on-target and showcased what Tina Fey is so great at doing — making people laugh.

The girl’s got skill.

Fey’s Palin sketches from 2008 were some of the biggest viral Internet hits of the year.

April 10, 2010 marked a second homecoming for Fey, who also is the brains behind the hit television comedy 30 Rock, as she rose from obscurity through Saturday Night Live! throughout the late 1990s and into the 2000s.

Oh and by the way teenage girls — Justin Bieber was alongside Mrs. Fey. :)

{Rules of PR no. 39} 6 Ways Social Media IS a Lifestyle

via Francisco Caceres for TIME

Social Media is a lifestyle, not a campaign.

Or is it?

Does social media mean that all you do all day long is play on Facebook and Twitter?

Well, if it does, I guess that means myself and a couple other hundred people are out of a job, Mashable’s Pete Cashmore knows nothing and Tech Crunch needs to find some other topic to take up a third of its subject matter.

Social media is a way of thinking:

be open, be smart, be aware, make strategic decisions and engage.

Does that not sound like a great mantra for life and business? [Read more...]

COMMENTARY: Writing, Society & the Lack of Education Plaguing Our Nation

I remember being in pre-school hearing Whitney Houston sing, “I believe the children are our future: teach them well and let them lead the way…“  and as much as I’d like to say that that exists in the United States today, I would be lying if I did.

Not to generalize, but I’ve noticed a very large discrepancy in the literacy rates of our country over the past few years. Granted, I’m part of the exception and not the rule, recognizing that, does not change the problem from what it is: our school systems are failing.
