Music Monday – @KrisAllen4Real covers @TheScript

Sometimes we fall down, and can’t get back up,
we’re hiding behind the skin that’s too tough…

If you’re an American Idol fan, and even if you’re not, you know who Kris Allen is. He was in a battle for the American Idol crown in 2009 against Adam Lambert. Anyway, the American Idol winner just released his debut song post-Idol called “Live Like We’re Dying.”

No, Tim McGraw fans, not “Live Like You’re Dying,” we’re talking about something completely different…

Well, in case you didn’t know, Kris’s new song is a cover song of a 2008 b-side track by an Irish band called The Script. “Live Like We’re Dying” is on b-side of their single “We Cry.”

It’s upbeat, sounds a bit indie, kinda surfer-esque or Celtic, depending on what you hear…but either way, I love, love, love, love, love, love it!!!

This is the Kris Allen version, you can HEAR it on YouTube. No music video yet!

And if you’re curious, you can HEAR The Script version too. No video, as this was never a single of theirs.

I only have one critique — Kris Allen was known on Idol for changing up the songs and making them into his own style. His version of “Live Like We’re Dying” sounds way to similar to the original. Not that that’s a bad thing, because The Script version is awesome, but I was hoping Kris would have changed it up some more…at least that is what I’ve come to expect from him via his performances on American Idol…I mean you heard how he changed up “Heartless.”

  1. Sorry, but no one outside of the idol bubble has a clue who Kris Allen is. Now Adam Lambert, that's another story.

And Kris Allen doing a cover of a song after spending a season on AI doing covers of songs is lame. IMO.
