MTV VMAs 2009: PR Stunts, Videos, Blood, Kermit and Kanye

In a nutshell, how sad is it when the only normal person gracing the VMA stage looks to be Madonna, followed closely by Russell Brand? Not that the VMAs have ever been normal, but Kanye’s an @$$, Gaga is mental, Katy Perry is overrated, Beyoncé was pure class & Taylor…poor Taylor.

Seriously. Seriously? Seriously!

This morning I woke up and had more than one person inquiring where my MTV post was. After my Open Letter and Generational posts, I don’t want to be labeled the girl who hates MTV, because I don’t, but if you want it, here you go, you got it and I’m humbled you want to know what my acid tongue wanted to spew.

So, for whatever it’s worth, this is my opinion:-

Michael Jackson Tribute

Finally, a commercial tribute that wasn’t a circus!

Well done.

I loved it!

The dancers were on point, in sync, love the mimics to the videos, loved the Jackson costume allusions and the channeling of the Balmain in Michael Jackson look alikeness.

Janet Jackson was an extra cherry to the sundae worth of the culture the King of Pop created.

That’s hot!

Russell Brand

A definite improvement from the last time he took the MTV stage. Proclaiming himself a cross between Robert Pattinson and Harry Potter, with lots of magic in his wand, was predictable, but classic.

Katy Perry

She’s overrated, sounds like a horse and I still don’t get why people think she’s the kitten’s caboodle. I personally think she has Lady GaGa wannabe syndrome.

My answer to the manufacturing pop-machine execs? Umm, at least Christina did it before it was done, Britney reinvented it in her own right and the Spice Girls lived in Spiceland.

Don’t give me something watered down that’s been done before. And on that note, please at least make her lyrics rhyme.

It doesn’t matter she wore the same dress as mi chica bonita Shakira, but I can’t be the only one who thinks she was channeling Lil’ Kim with the boobie heart, right?

RPattz, K Can’t Act & other Wolfie

1. Where was Dakota? Jane is going to be supberb. *squeee*
2. Exclusive trailer? Seriously? Don’t make me laugh. Not only was it aired at another event previously, but ummm, it was leaked on Friday September 11, 2009 and I had it posted on the Pink Book Saturday morning by 9 a.m. So to say it was still exclusive content Sunday night?

That’s all I have to say about that.

MTV, you need to keep up with what’s going on in the world, seriously. *geesh*

White, Blood and Glitz: Lady GaGa

I never ever thought she was creative. Let’s get that straight. I don’t think she’s as prolific as Madonna, as cutting edge as Michael Jackson was or defined bubblegum dancing the way Wade Robson did for Britney Spears and N Sync.

Lady Gaga is pretty much eccentric and the bottom line is: she knows how to put on a good show. She’s a product of being a New York performer and that’s about it.

So the white, skanky virginal costume, stained in blood, after one-leg upped on the piano dramatically crooning out her satirical love for the paparazzi – I was entertained.

  • The red lacey ensemble? Where’s the bottle of ketchup?
  • No, I don’t think Lady GaGa is a man.
  • The white furry headdress? Umm, WTF. Reminded me of Animal from The Muppets. And she was hanging out with Kermit earlier, so yea…

Now sing with me,

“I’m your biggest fan, I’ll follow you until you love me, papa papa papa-razzi – baby, there’s no other superstar you know that I’ll be…”

Cinderella: Taylor Swift

From her arrival in a horse drawn carriage, to her sequined gown of sparkling delight, Taylor Swift seemed to be channeling Cinderella at the VMAs.

Goodness, she was gorgeous. But seriously, when has Taylor been anything but gorgeous? She’s 19-years old, has a multi-platinum music career and she’s bridging the gap between contemporary country music and pop.

So when she won Best Female Video and had her thunder stolen from her – let me channel some Kelly Clarkson for you…

Kanye West is an @$$

Dear Kanye,

What happened to you as a child?? Did you not get hugged enough?? Something must have happened to make you this way and I think we’re all just curious as to what would make a grown man go on national television and make a talented artist, let alone teenager, feel like sh**. I mean, I’ve seen you do some pretty sh***y things, but you just keep amazing me with your tactless, a**hole ways. It’s absolutely fascinating how much I don’t like you. I like everyone. I even like my a**hole ex that cheated on me over you…which is pretty odd since I don’t even personally know you. The best part of this evening is that you weren’t even up for THIS award and yet you still have a problem with the outcome. Is winning a moon man that much of a life goal?? You can have mine if it will shut you up. Is it that important, really??

I was actually nominated in the same category that Taylor won and I was excited for her…so why can’t you be?? I’m not even mad at you for being an a**hole…I just pity you because you’re a sad human being.

On a side note, Beyonce has always been a class act and proved again tonight that she still is. Go TEXAS!!
Taylor Swift, you outsell him ….that’s why he’s bitter. You know I love your work! Keep it up girl!

KC 🙂
(and Sasha agrees with nothing left to add.)

Though some side tidbits –

  • Loved Muse.
  • I think Megan Fox is an alien, she’s too pretty to be human.
  • Madonna looks like she stepped out of the 1990s and I heart that.

  • Eminem amuses me…like a lot. Throw Tracey Morgan in there and we’ll sing “Time After Time” together.

  • Beyonce was a pure class — giving her moment to Taylor Swift. Go Beyonce!!!

There you have it.
