Rumor has it Karl Lagerfeld will not renew his contract at Chanel. Not only that, but Albert Elbaz will take his place and Olivier Theyskens will take Elbaz’s place at Lanvin.
Earlier today, Diane Pernet said:
“This is not a fact until you officially read it somewhere else but rumour has it that Karl Lagerfeld will not renew his contract at Chanel and that Albert Elbaz will take his place and Olivier Theyskens will take Albert’s place at Lanvin…Nothing is engraved in cement, these are still just rumours you will have to wait and see.â€
What does this mean? We all knew one day the endless supply of creativity, exquisite-unique tastes and pure in-your-face-awesomeness would end. We just didn’t know when. The same could be said for Marc Jacobs in the future. Do you feel the uneasiness and butterflies? The anticipation building? I do.Â
I really wonder what Anna Wintour, a long time friend of the Lagerfeld, has to say. Will she say anything at all? Am I feeling a Miranda Priestly v. Nigel moment approaching, dear goodness!
Until then we can look forward to couture week in Paris, where Lagerfeld will enchant the audience with glorious Chanel at the Grand Palais. In the past he said said couture “has to be like a celebration.” The Chanel show is scheduled for July 7 at 9 p.m.
I just have one phrase: Whoaaaaa!
“Hold up now, y´all. Word on the street here in Venice is that maybe some of this fashion designer shuffling is true.”
Well now, what a tangled web we weave.
