{Beautirati} Step Into Summer

Beautirati logo by Sasha H. Muradali. 2009 All Rights Reserved.

New at the Little Pink Book, sporadically on a Thursday, is our new feature called {Beautirati}; our beauty guide. Not a weekly feature, because we won’t cover a topic just because it’s “hot.” Don’t look for the super cheap finds with us either. Our philosophy is: cosmetics go on your face, therefore, while you should keep tabs on your wallet, you shouldn’t be frugal in matters of the face.

We hope to bring you quality, not quantity.

Summer is the warmest time of the year with the longest days. So why not look your best this summer: natural, fun, but enhanced.

We’re not going to lie, that’s what cosmetics do, they enhance your looks. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you can become a more beautiful you.

No need for crazy diets (though we do not advocate eating junk food 24-7) or wearing your skin on your clothes (no, you are not Britney Spears or Aubrey O’Day). No, none of that. Let your inner beauty shine through.

So from us to you, in our first

{Beautirati} Step Into Summer

Mentha Ultra Lipshine by CO Bigelow Chemists.
  • CO Bigelow Ultra Mentha

Minty fresh and clean, we love, absolutely love, the No. 1122 Ultra Mentha Lip Shine Peppermint Oil lip gloss from Bigelow Chemists. Containing 2.3% peppermint oil and .2% field mint oil, it keeps your lips shiny, smooth and soft for hours…unless of course you lick it off. Need a breath freshener? Dab a bit on your teeth.

Though, Mentha comes in various shades and levels of “mint,” this is our favourite.

It’s strong (think Lip Venom), tasty and because it is actually a cloudy-clear gloss, as opposed to a completely clear shine, it gives your lips a more natural, succulent look.

Best thing about it? Believe it or not, Mentha is unisex. That’s right men, you can use it too! Though we don’t recommend using it in the quantities women do, as it does make your lips ultra glassy. If that’s too risque for you, guys, Bigelow also has a great selection of lip balms minus the shine.

Let it never be said a girl likes to kiss chappy lips.

Price $7.50 USD – Typically found at Bath & Body Works at a mall near you.

Swatch of Ambering Rose by MAC Cosmetics. MACPro All Rights Reserved 2009.

  • MAC Cosmetics Ambering Rose blush

MAC describes it as a “laid back amber rose in a sheertone shimmer.” We like to call it a burnt rose, with a hint of whiskey colouring flushed with some golden sparkles. Personally, we like our description better.

Make no mistake, this is not a bronzer. But that’s the beauty of it, with Ambering Rose you don’t need a bronzer. Why spend money on two products when you can buy one?

Fitted perfectly in the colour spectrum, this blush works well on most skin tones and truly enhances your cheekbones. Wear it heavier for the nighttime, lighter during the day. Period.

Price $18.00 USD– Typically found at MAC Cosmetics counters in Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s or a MAC store at any mall.

  • NARS Screaming Orgasm blush

Yes, okay, we know, this the second blush on our list. But we can’t help it. If the name doesn’t get you, the colour will.

Exactly as NARS describes it, it is a “peachy pink with gold glitter.”

We’ve heard some say the glitter is a bit chunky, but it’s summer, who cares? It’s really just a great blush. Use it together with Ambering Rose or on its own, use it on your eyes for a shadow or dab some on your lips for highlighting, you will love it.

Price $25.00 USD – Typically at a Sephora store or a NARS counter at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales or Saks Fifth Avenue.

Dior Show Black Out Mascara by Christian Dior.

  • Black Out Mascara by DIOR

The first time this product was introduced to us, we were told, “Tammy Faye move over!” But we’re not going to go as far as to say that. Blackout by Diorshow is an extreme black mascara. Meant to give your lashes a dramatic, elongated finish, it does it’s job well.

Use it once for perfect lashes.

Use it once, let it dry, then reapply if you want to go for the Twiggy look.

Use it once, let it dry, then reapply, let it dry again and then apply MAC’s Zoom Lash on top of that for Twiggy meets Tammy Faye, should you dare.

Price $24.00 USD –Typically found anywhere that sells Dior products: department stores or Sephora.

MAC Cosmetics Teddy eye kohl swatch. By MACPro. All Rights Reserved 2009.

  • MAC  eye kohl (eyeliner) in Teddy

Glides on easily, it’s a cross between brown and bronze with tiny speckles of gold. Use it for a natural, perfect line across your eyelids or smuge for a smoky brown effect.

Bottom line, we’re not going to tell you how awesome Teddy is, or how we use it throughout the year, or how it’s one of the most versatile eye pencils out there, or even how it’s perfect  for you people with allergies (and us) or how fantastic it is if you are in dire need of a “soft” pencil. No, we will not tell you any of that. We’re just going to say, if there is one eye pencil you should invest in, it’s this one.

In the winter, you should buy it’s sister colour called Smolder. It’s the black to the Teddy brown.

Price $14.50 USD –Typically found at MAC Cosmetics counters in Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s or a MAC store at any mall.

  1. I LOVE CO Bigelow lip glosses and balms. They make a great rose salve too!
But I’m only a fan of the original NARS Orgasm. The newer one is too chunky glittery!
Haven’t tried Diorshow Blackout. Though I did find it humorous when Mark compared it to Tammy Faye. lol

  2. Love the new blog design!

  3. Teddy is one of my fave eyeliners of all time!!! It should be a staple in everyone’s makeup bag.
